New York Yankees slugger, Giancarlo Stanton, one of the hardest hitter of the ball in MLB, has witnessed his career getting massively plagued by injuries. In last five years alone, Stanton has had 7 major injury scares which led to prolonged absence on injury list.

Having said that, the 2024 season started on a healthy note, with Giancarlo Stanton showing signs of improvement in offensive form well. However, fate decided to challenge Stanton once again as he encountered an injury scare last Saturday which is similar to something he went through last year that kept him out of the lineup for 6 weeks.

Giancarlo Stanton To Miss 4 Weeks With Hamstring Strain

When Giancarlo Stanton picked up a hamstring pull in August last season, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said getting injured had become a part of Stanton’s game. While Cashman’s statement caused uproar at that time, little did the Yanks know that their GM was visionary. On Sunday, ahead of the rubber game against the Atlanta Braves, the Yanks placed Stanton on 10-day IL with a mid-level hamstring strain. The designated hitter was pulled from Saturday’s 8-3 win and went through imaging scans. The slugger talked to the media and revealed that the potential return timeline is four weeks. But he will definitely try to get back in shape before that.

“Feelings don’t really matter at this time. It’s just going to be a rough four weeks. I got to do what I can to get there,” Giancarlo Stanton said in a pre-game interview. Notably, this is Stanton’s 8th IL stint in the last 6 years. He previously suffered from a strained right biceps and posterior cruciate ligament in right knee in 2019, a strained left hamstring in 2020, a strained left quadriceps in 2021, right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis in 2022, and a strained left hamstring in 2023.

Interestingly, Stanton came out with a much leaner physique this year to stay less prone to injuries. The team even played him as a designated hitter since the start of the season to avoid risks of injuries in the outfield. However, Stanton getting injured once through a season seems inevitable at this point. Meanwhile, for reinforcement, the Yankees lent help from Oakland Athletics as a sudden trade deal was announced on Sunday.

Yankees Trade First Baseman J.D. Davis From The Athletics

As Antony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton are out for a long haul with respective injuries, the New York Yankees traded first baseman J.D Davis from Oakland Athletics to bring him up as immediate reinforcement. They acquired Davis and cash considerations from Oakland in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans.

Notably, Aaron Boone said that Jasson Dominguez would have been an ideal replacement for Giancarlo Stanton had he not strained his oblique last week in the Triple-A. Now, Dominguez is also on the same timeline as Stanton, which rules out his imminent return to the majors. Also, the Yankees called up Oswald Peraza from minors on Saturday. But he was optioned back to Triple-A on Sunday after J.D Davis’ trade.
