New York Yankees left-hand pitcher Carlos Rodon has returned to the mound for his first practice session after a forearm injury.
Carlos Rodon was one of the most talked about acquisitions of the New York Yankees this off-season. The southpaw opted out of the San Francisco Giants’ two-year contract and signed with New York via free agency. Finally, the Yanks locked him for six long years at the cost of $162 million. However, just a day after the pitcher made his much-anticipated spring training debut, the Bombers placed him on the injury list.
A couple of weeks ago, the New York Yankees officially confirmed that Carlos Rodon would begin his first season with the pinstripes on the injury list as he sustained a forearm injury on his throwing arm. Despite no set timetable, it was presumed that he might miss a couple of months of the season, considering the gravity of his injury. However, as the pitcher makes his way back to the mound, we may finally receive some good news.
Carlos Rodon To Reportedly Return As Early As The First Week Of May
Left-hand pitcher Carlos Rodon, whom the New York Yankees acquired this off-season, suffered a strain on his forearm. However, despite the seriousness of the injury, Rodon has been making steady progress in his recovery and has been throwing bullpen sessions over the past few weeks. According to the Bombers’ pitching coach, Matt Blake, Rodon will need 2-3 more bullpen sessions before he can begin live sessions. Furthermore, once he starts throwing live, he will require an additional month of recovery period to return to the mound in MLB.
Hence, if everything goes according to the set play, Carlos Rodon can make his pinstripe debut by the first week of May. Rodon’s return will be a massive boost for the Yankees, who are hoping to make a deep playoff run this season. Moreover, with Rodon, the team has one of the top left-handed pitchers in the game. Rodon’s return will also help to solidify a starting rotation that already includes Gerrit Cole, Luis Severino, and Nestor Cortes. Also, the team needs a pitcher of Carlos’ caliber in the mix, as he will provide the much-needed support and balance in the rotation.
Tommy Kahnle Receives An Injection For Biceps Tendinitis
While Carlos Rodon preps for his strong comeback, Tommy Kahnle has received an unfortunate setback. Tommy suffered from right biceps tendinitis earlier this month. Further, the Yankees medical staff decided to inject him with a cortisone shot to push the healing process. These tendinitis injuries are tricky and can take weeks and months to heal.
Hence, the Bombers chose to inject him to fasten up the recovery process. However, it remains to be seen how Kahnle’s body reacts to the dose. If all goes well, Tommy can too begin throwing sessions in a couple of weeks. However, the team has to exercise caution as these injuries tend to flare up if not given proper attention and care.
