Defying all odds, New York Yankees ace pitcher Gerrit Cole delivered a CY Young-worth season in 2023. However, the ace alone cannot hold the team’s fort in the long run. He needs an anchor backing him in the five-man starting pitching rotation. Carlos Rodon has not been as effective as the Bombers presumed.

Thus, in 2024, the New York Yankees are mulling to add another strong arm. So far, Japanese phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s name has been strongly linked to the Bombers as the latter has allegedly kept aside as much as $200 million for the ace. However, if the Yanks are looking for a cheaper alternative, a former Yankee, now thriving with the Texas Rangers, seems a perfect candidate.

Yankees To Reunite With Jordan Montgomery In 2024, Claims Top MLB Pundit!

Starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery was drafted by the New York Yankees in fourth round of the 2014 MLB draft. He then continued his grind in the minor league before eventually making it to the big leagues in 2017. However, Montgomery’s six-year stay in the Bronx was heavily dominated by injury setbacks. He missed significant time between 2018-2019 due to elbow issues. Even upon return, the pitcher struggled with rhythm, which prompted the Yanks to trade him to the Cardinals in 2022. Having said that, Jordan witnessed a turnaround in the Cardinals. In 32 starts, he posted a .3.31 ERA with 169 strikeouts. The Cardinals later moved him to Texas Rangers, wherein he just delivered a start in the ALDS.

Eyeing Jordan Montgomery’s rise, the New York Yankees are apparently open to reuniting with the pitcher. Bob Nightengale of USA Today was the first one to report the news. This year, the pitcher has a 3.20 ERA across 32 starts. Not only that, Jordan has been the Rangers’ most effective pitcher this year and thus was promoted to ALDS. A reunion seems apt for the Yankees. The pitcher is currently witnessing a resurgence and might be entering his prime. When paired with Gerrit Cole, Montgomery can feed on Cole’s momentum to dig up wins. Overall, it’s a trade worth an effort. But ultimately, the choice between Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jordan Montgomery would be a tough one to crack for Hal Steinbrenner.

Fans Call Out Yankee’s Dubious Decision-Making Amid Reports Of Montgomery Reunion!

Meanwhile, while the fans are happy with the news of a possible reunion with pitcher Jordan Montgomery, they cannot help but raise significant doubt about the Yankees’ decision-making ability when it comes to acquisitions. Many believe that trading away the pitcher in 2022 was never an ideal decision. Perhaps the Yanks lacked patience with Jordan.

Moreover, a certain fraction of fans also believe that maybe Jordan Montgomery rejects the Yankees’ offer, given the humiliation he encountered last time. Anything is possible at this stage, and if the pitcher feels his future seems better looking at Texas, he will not hesitate to turn down the offer. Ultimately, Montgomery is a free agent and will have offers lined up for him. Thus, the ball is in the pitcher’s court for now.
