The New York Yankees have been on a roll since the start of the 2024 regular season. It is great news for the fans who have been waiting for them to play in this fashion. Currently, the Bronx Bombers are fighting hard to get the top place in the American League East division. However, the Baltimore Orioles are their biggest threat to win the AL East. The Orioles had a magnificent run in last year’s regular season. On the other hand, the NY side had a forgettable season in 2023. However, they have shown a lot of promise and hope to go deeper in the playoffs this year.

Moreover, the starting pitchers have done a great job so far without their ace, Gerrit Cole. Initially, the ace pitcher’s absence was a big concern. But after more than a month of the regular season is over, the team can be really happy with how starters like Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, and Carlos Rodon have performed. If the Yankees can keep up the good work, they can look to add more depth to the rotation. How about a veteran pitcher from Chicago?

Yankees Can Trade For Chris Flexen

Recently, Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports reported that Chris Flexen, the veteran Chicago White Sox hurler, might get traded around the trade deadline. Flexen is only 29 years old. As per Nightengale, the White Sox are looking to trade Tommy Pham for a lot of money ahead of the trade deadline. Moreover, the Chicago side is going through the worst start in their franchise history. On top of that, Bob Nightengale expects that the White Sox will trade some starting pitchers. For instance, Erick Fedde, Mike Clevinger, and Chris Flexen. Then, the White Sox might also trade reliever Michael Kopech and the Designated Hitter Eloy Jimenez, according to Nightengale of USA Today.

Like the White Sox did not have a great start, Chris Flexen did not have the start he hoped for in 2024. After seven appearances, Flexen has a 4.85 ERA. Nevertheless, he can turn out to be a really useful pitcher for the NY side if they trade for him. When he was playing for the Seattle Mariners, Flexen had a 3.61 ERA in 2021 with 31 starts. Later, in 2022, he had 33 starts, when he posted a 3.73 ERA. Moreover, the Yankees could land him for a low cost, and if Flexen can pitch in his 2022 level, it could really help boost the back of the NY side’s rotation.

At the moment, the Yankees are 23-13. They are in second place in the AL East. Moreover, the Orioles have the advantage over them after beating them in a four-game series. Nevertheless, against the Detroit Tigers, it seemed like Aaron Judge was gradually getting back to his groove. That’s great news if he can come to his natural element. Then, Judge and Juan Soto will form the formidable offensive duo they were meant to be.

Moreover, recent reports suggest Gerrit Cole is going through a speedy recovery and so does DJ LeMahieu. When these key veteran players return, the lineup will get even stronger. Hence, it looks really promising about the Yankees going really deep in the playoffs this year.
