Jazz Chisholm Jr joined the New York Yankees roster at the midseason trade deadline and swiftly transformed into a third baseman after playing the majority of his life as a centre fielder. Surprisingly, the transition turned out smooth as Chisholm witnessed a breakout stretch on the plate.

He injected the much-needed spark into the New York Yankees offensive lineup, which eventually resulted in a resurgence. Having said that, in a major setback to the team’s playoff push, Jazz Chisholm is likely to be ruled out of the season with a gruesome injury he sustained earlier this week while sliding at home against the White Sox.

The New York Yankees received possibly one of the biggest blows of the season as Jazz Chisholm Jr’s MRI reports revealed a UCL injury. The mid-skid addition slid down the home plate while trying to score on Anthony Volpe’s single on Monday’s series opener against the White Sox. While he managed to score a run for his team, the catcher’s hard tap hurt Jazz’s left elbow. He shrugged his hand down in the dugout before the Yanks pulled him out of the game in the seventh innings. However, Chisholm was confident as the initial X-ray reports had come back negative. It was only after the MRI scans were conducted on Tuesday that Chisholm faced the hard reality.

On Tuesday, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that Jazz Chisholm Jr had been diagnosed with a UCL injury on his left elbow, which is his non-throwing arm. “Obviously, he’s been really impactful for us, and hopefully, this is something that’s a shorter period, and we get him back and rolling,” Boone said. The Yanks haven’t placed him on the injury list yet, as the team is awaiting an expert doctor’s opinion to rule out the need for surgery. However, by the early looks of it, even without surgery, an IL stint is very likely. Moreover, with only 6 weeks left on the regular season schedule, it’s unlikely that Jazz Chisholm Jr will be able to return for the remainder of the season. Needless to say, it’s a big blow for the Yanks, as Chisholm was arguably one of the best hitters on the team in the second half.

Who Will Replace Jazz Chisholm In The Yankees Lineup?

Jazz Chisholm was instructed to transform into a full-time third baseman, and the ex-outfielder adjusted himself beautifully to the infield dirt. However, the UCL injury will probably keep him out for the rest of the season, meaning the Yanks will need immediate reinforcements. Aaron Boone is open to recalling somebody from Triple-A, possibly a pitcher.

Its because the Yankees have enough depth in the infield to fill the third base void. DJ LeMahieu could move back to his original space at 3B with Ben Rice taking regular reps at first base. Utility player Oswaldo Cabrera is also an option as he can split time at 1B as well as 3B. Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas remain on 40-man roster, but INF Jon Berti is not yet ready to come off IL.
