The New York Yankees are down toward the final stretch of the 2023 MLB season. They have a mere 10 games left on the schedule while standing eight games below the playoff wildcard spot. Nevertheless, that door has been long closed. However, even as the regular season nears its end, the injury woes refuse to die down.

Yankees have a record number of players shut down due to unfortunate injuries, including Anthony Rizzo and Luis Severino. Earlier this month, in-form prospect Jasson Dominguez went down with a UCL tear, which will also endanger his 2024 season. Meanwhile, another major bullpen piece of the Yankee roster remains on the verge of being shut down.

Yankees Wandy Peralta MIA For A Week, Likely Facing Injury Threat!

Left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta has been the New York Yankees most used bullpen piece of the season. In 63 appearances this year, he recorded a 2.83 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched. The impending free agent has been highly impressive and has played a key role in lifting the Yankee bullpen to the top. However, an injury bug seems to have got hold of Peralta, as he has been missing in action since September 14. He pitched last in the four-game series against rivals Boston Red Sox. Since then, there has been no sight of Peralta. He seemed to have disappeared out of thin air as the Bombers refrained from providing an update.

Nevertheless, Gary Phillips of New York Daily News Sports managed to get a snippet. He claims that Wandy Peralta is being sidelined due to a triceps injury. The severity and extent of the injury is still unknown. But the best guess would be that the Yankees are dealing with it as day-to-day stuff. Still, the reliever is not expected to return this season. With only 10 games left in the remainder of the regular season, it would be an ideal choice to risk Peralta. Having said that, the late injury scare is devastating for Wandy. He will enter the free agent market in 2024, and a perfect finish would have upped his market value. Regardless, the left-hander has had a terrific season to find a strong suitor.

Everson Pereira Continues To Miss Games With Hamstring Stiffens!

Meanwhile, another key prospect is headed down to the injury list. Outfield prospect Everson Pereira, who was supposed to get regular playing time during the final stretch, has been missing in action for a while. Apparently, Pereira is dealing with a hamstring injury, and the Yankees got him sidelined to avoid risks. While the Bombers continue to maintain radio silence, the prospect missed yet another game on Thursday.

Everson Pereira was scratched from the Yankees’ lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. The skipper, Aaron Boone, did not offer any update and is likely treating it as a day-to-day injury. Having said that, the outfielder is also expected to be shut down for the season. The team management would want to avoid any risks during the final 10-game stretch.
