The Golden State Warriors must be afraid of Stephen Curry leaving them. It is a genuine fear after everything that has happened in this offseason. They had to let Klay Thompson go to the Dallas Mavericks. The sharpshooter has been a franchise icon and a ‘Splash Brother’ of Steph. Now that Klay’s gone, the Dub Nation fears that Steph will leave, too. After the 2023-2024 season ended on a disappointing note for Thompson and the Dubs, Curry had said that he couldn’t imagine playing without “Those two guys.”

Along with Thompson and Draymond Green, the three-point King led the Warriors to become a modern-day dynasty. There is a very good reason why this Dubs trio means a lot to the franchise and its fans. But it is no longer a trio as Klay switched sides. They won’t be able to fight for winning a fifth title together anymore. Now, the Dubs organization need to rebuild the roster to make it a championship-winning team again. But what’s the future for Curry and his connection with the franchise?

At present, Stephen Curry is busy with his first experience of the Olympic Games. However, in a recent interview with The New York Times, Joe Lacob, the Dubs owner, revealed that he had no formal discussion with Curry about signing an extension. Lacob told Tim Kawakami that they have not discussed it yet. Moreover, the Warriors owner acknowledged the fact that Curry is busy at present, and he should completely focus on that right now. However, Lacob says if he wants to talk about an extension, he sure can, “It’s up to him.” Curry has been waiting for the Paris Olympics for a long time. Hence, his complete focus has been on his first appearance in the Summer Games. That’s why Lacob says, “He has not said that he wants to talk about an extension soon, but if he does, we sure will entertain that discussion.”

Moreover, the owner believes that Stephen Curry will be a ‘Warrior for life.’ However, he added that it is exactly what he thought Klay would be, too. Lacob said, “But I was wrong.” Anyway, the Dubs owner believes Stephen Curry means a lot to this franchise. Hence, he says the whole organization would love to see Curry play as long as he wants to. Moreover, Lacob said that Steph’s been in incredible shape. Hence, he should be able to play for quite a bit longer. Finally, Lacob drew a comparison with an NFL legend, saying, “Maybe Curry’s Tom Brady.”

Recently, in an interview with Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, Stephen Curry said that he always wanted to be a Warrior for life. But he said that things in the league can change so quickly. Curry said his aim to be a champion again will always be there. He wants to win more championships before he hangs his boots. However, the way things ended last season, it looks tough for the Dubs to regain their status as a dynasty.

Moreover, Steph indicated that if the Dubs start to look like a bottom feeder in the Western Conference, he might make a tough decision. Perhaps then, he will start looking elsewhere. He is 36 years old right now. That means before hanging his boots, he must make smart decisions from now onwards to see if he can win more titles.
