Last year in Brazil, Mercedes had their only win of the season when George Russell took his first Formula 1 victory. As Formula 1 returns to Sao Paulo this weekend, Red Bull expects Mercedes to be strong again. Red Bull has been super successful, winning 18 out of 19 races this season. Mercedes is yet to win in this season, with their last win in Sao Paulo 12 months ago. Christian Horner believes Mercedes will be competitive in Brazil, setting the stage for an exciting race at Interlagos.
Red Bull Prepares For Tough Competition From Mercedes
Red Bull Racing’s dominance in the current campaign has been truly impressive. They’ve left their competition trailing behind, making it seem like no one could challenge their control. However, Mercedes remains a strong competitor, even though they haven’t won a race this season. Their last Formula 1 victory came exactly a year ago in Sao Paulo, when George Russell secured his first win. Lately, the Brackley-based team has shown strong performance, with Lewis Hamilton finishing second in both the United States and Mexico.
Their happiness didn’t last long in the USA. Hamilton was disqualified due to a problem with the underside of his car. Mercedes is keen to break their winless streak. Christian Horner believes that the Brazilian Grand Prix might provide them with the opportunity to do just that. Horner said, “They’ve been competitive on long races here [in Mexico], and Austin’s hard to judge because of what happened. But we expect them to be strong in Brazil, for sure. Brazil is a challenge we need to overcome, as we felt our setup wasn’t quite right there last year. We aim to fix that this year.” As Mercedes seeks to rekindle their winning ways, it promises to be an exciting battle with Red Bull at Interlagos.
Can Hamilton Snatch 2nd Place In The Drivers’ Standings From Perez?
As the Formula 1 season heads to Sao Paulo, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell find themselves in the final sprint weekend of the season. In Sao Paulo, on November 13 last year, George Russell achieved his first Formula 1 victory. He secured a one-two finish with his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Russell also won the Saturday sprint race. Hamilton has finished in the second position in the last two races, showing Mercedes’ improved performance in races. This comes even after his disqualification in Texas. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff acknowledged, “We go there knowing we have a good car, and if we get everything right, we can have a strong weekend.”
Lewis Hamilton, a three-time winner at Interlagos, enjoys a significant following in Brazil, a country without a Formula 1 driver of its own. However, his pursuit of second place in the drivers’ standings intensifies, as he trails Red Bull’s Sergio Perez by just 20 points. Red Bull and Max Verstappen have already secured both titles, making the battle for second place an exciting subplot for the season’s conclusion. The upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix promises to be a thrilling spectacle, with Red Bull looking to maintain its dominant form, Mercedes aiming to end its streak without a win, and Lewis Hamilton in hot pursuit of second place in the drivers’ championship.
