Stephen Curry & Klay Thompson have been teammates since 2011. They became the ‘Splash Brothers’ while playing for the Golden State Warriors. Until the end of the 2023-2024 season, fans could not imagine the Splash Bros playing for any other franchise. However, the veteran shooting guard decided in this offseason that he would like to leave the Dubs. Later, the GSW traded the sharpshooter to the Dallas Mavericks. It might be a great opportunity for both the Mavs as well as Klay to win the next title. The Dallas side was the runners-up in the 2023-2024 NBA Finals after losing to the most successful NBA side, the Boston Celtics.

Perhaps adding Thompson to the roster alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving can lead the Mavs to championship glory in the following years. The four-time champion signed a three-year deal worth $50 million with the Mavericks. It was a big shock for the Dub Nation to see one of their franchise icons move to another team. What the fans in the Bay Area assumed was that the legendary trio – Stephen Curry, Draymond Green & Klay Thompson would retire together wearing the Warriors uniform. But the sharpshooter ruined that plan. Now, the fans wonder if Curry would choose to leave, too.

A few days ago, veteran shooting guard and four-time champion Klay Thompson left the GSW to explore his new journey at the Dallas Mavericks. Even a year ago, it was unthinkable that Klay would leave the Dubs. But it did happen this offseason. It was tough to process for the fans, but a lot tougher for his ‘Splash Bro.’ Stephen Curry is now busy with his practice for Team USA, getting ready for the Paris Olympics. However, the news of his favourite teammate moving to Dallas surely broke his heart. He may have already been aware of it before they made the official confirmation.

Lately, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, Stephen Curry mentioned that there is no doubt in his mind at present that he wants to stay “Warriors for life.” Moreover, Curry said that it has always been his goal. However, he added, “Saying I won’t leave Warriors as I’m sitting on this chair right now, but life in the NBA is wild. Things can change pretty quickly.” Hence, there is still an element of doubt regarding Curry ending his NBA career as a Warrior. After Thompson’s exit, it seems anything is possible. Moreover, the Dubs have been dealing with their payroll issues for a while now.

Steph Says Warriors Made A ‘Fair’ Offer To Klay Early In The Last Season

Greats in North American sports leaving a team they have played most of their career with to join another team right before their retirement is not uncommon. Tom Brady is a pretty good example who left the New England Patriots to join Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Perhaps Klay did something similar with his move to the Mavs. Anyway, in a recent interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic, Stephen Curry mentioned that as per his knowledge, the Warriors made a fair offer to Thompson last fall regarding the extension.

At least, Curry thought it was fair. As per reports, it was an offer for a two-year extension worth $48 million. Stephen Curry says that with all the things that go into it, the team is trying to help them be successful. Moreover, it is a business at the end of the day. Also, Curry says that he knows the length of the contract meant a big deal to his ‘Splash Bro.’
