Formula One is one of the most entertaining spectacles. Its season is packed with 24 exciting races, ten elite F1 teams, and 20 excellent drivers fighting it out for two trophies. The ultimate war is for the Drivers’ and Constructors’ world titles. Although it is to prove the supremacy of advanced technology and precise racing skills, the mammoth money prize is also a great reward.

While Max Verstappen is racing towards his fourth consecutive title, Red Bull might fail to defend the Constructors’ Cup. However, a recent report suggests the team wouldn’t be disappointed despite the failure, as Sergio Perez’s sponsor made a surprising offer.

Checo’s Sponsor To Cover All The Red Bull’s Financial Loss

According to a report from Motorsport Italy, Red Bull is considering losing the constructors’ world championship. The team has a financial safety net in place, largely thanks to a group of Mexican sponsors led by billionaire Carlos Slim. These sponsors are expected to cover a significant portion of the financial losses if Red Bull doesn’t secure the championship. This arrangement underscores Red Bull’s awareness that the battle for the team title will be far from easy, indicating their preparedness for a challenging season ahead.

Earlier, in 2023, the domination from Max Verstappen saw the Austrian squad lift the Constructors’ Cup with a prize money of $140 M. However, teh Silver Arrows got $9 M less than the champions. Although the difference doesn’t seem hefty, it could drastically impact the development plans. Therefore, this financial safety offered by Perez’s sponsors would be a sigh of relief for the RBR camp. Moreover, it could be a reason behind Checo’s retention for the current season. The Mexican racer has been in a loop of a slump, standing at P7 on the Drivers’ Leaderboard. Despite his experience, the 34-year-old racer has consistently failed to turn up his form. It is the biggest downside of the current RBR squad and RB20’s technical woes. However, the defending champions are adamant about resolving the issues and offering Checo a comfortable car.

Formula E Driver Highlights Perez’s Financial Backing

In an interview with Total Motorsport, Formula E driver Mitch Evans explained why Sergio Perez might be retained by Red Bull. Evans noted that some drivers can generate significant revenue for their teams, using Perez as a prime example. He argued that Perez’s knack for bringing in money makes him indispensable, even though he’s not a poor performer on the track.

Moreover, Evans also mentioned a Formula 1 driver who switched to Formula E only to face a harsh reality check, attributing this to the differences in how merit is rewarded between the two series. He further expressed disappointment over Nyck De Vries’ struggles, calling it a shame that reflected poorly on the entire E-racing community.
