Red Bull has been dominating the F1 grid again since last year. Previously, they were the most dominant force back in 2013. Later, in 2022, the Milton Keynes team won 17 races, and this year, they won an impressive 21 races. Moreover, the fans will celebrate the greatness of Max Verstappen who alone won 34 races in the last two years. But nobody can deny the architect of the Red Bull’s success. It is none other than Adrian Newey, their car designer.
He was the reason why the Austrian team had the fastest car from 2010 to 2013 and then again since last year. Newey also helped Max Verstappen challenge Lewis Hamilton for the 2021 Driver’s Championship and eventually win it. The 2021 car was pretty impressive, too. But RB19 proved to be the fastest F1 car ever. Thanks to Adrian Newey. Recently, Newey, 65, told Autosport that he has no intention of walking away at present.
Red Bull Will Have Adrian Newey For A Few More Years
Clearly, Adrian Newey is an integral part of the Milton Keynes team. He has been enjoying a great partnership with Christian Horner for a long time. They are the reason why the Austrian team is a powerhouse in modern times. Recently, Newey told Autosport that he once thought about walking away back in 2014 when Mercedes became the most dominant force. But now, when Red Bull is back at the top again, Newey said, “Why would I want to walk away from here now?”
He mentioned his involvement with Horner and Helmut Marko for Red Bull since the start with a lot of pride. But in 2014, they had a power unit that was not performing. Moreover, the manufacturers, from the top level to the guys in the factory, didn’t show much desire to get back on top in 2014. They showed no interest in investing in the manufacturing process to turn things around. That’s what made Newey ponder the idea of walking away. But now he is happy to see the motivation and passion in his team.
The Incredible Success Story Of The Austrian F1 Team
For four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013, nobody could beat the Austrian team like they had not been able to in the past couple of years. Sebastian Vettel was the best driver on the grid and broke all sorts of records. That saw the emergence of Red Bull as a dominant force. Since then, they have been a powerhouse. However, they could not maintain their hegemony from 2014. And their struggling time lasted till 2021.
But things changed, and their relentless pursuit of excellence ultimately paid off in 2022. Finally, last year, Red Bull had the car to win the constructor’s championship again. Last year saw Mercedes going through a big downward slope. They had a very poor car that had a lot of porpoising issues. That made things even easier for Red Bull as they don’t have any competition anymore.
