REPORTS: Red Bull Boss Admits Max Verstappen-Sergio Perez Performance Gap Unacceptable

Sergio Perez, Christian Horner and Max Verstappen

Mid-Day

The disparity between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez is now hurting Red Bull. The Milton Keynes-based outfit is among the few teams still following the orthodox driver lineup strategy. In this strategy, the team picks a leader, while the other driver is in a supporting role. Verstappen is the leader of Red Bull, and Perez is in a supporting role. While this tactic helped them to dominate the 2023 season, it has failed miserably in the current season.

This failure is due to Checo’s inconsistent performance. A faulty development plan is another factor in the RBR slump. Despite driving the same car, Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ standings with 331 points, while Sergio Perez lags far behind in eighth place, scoring less than half that total. As a result, the Constructors Cup appears to be beyond RBR’s reach. Moreover, it puts pressure on management for the upcoming season when rivals already have a solid lineup.

Christian Horner Desperate For Answers As Rivals Square Up With Strong Drivers Lineup

Sky Sports

The Red Bull boss Christian Horner recently acknowledged the mammoth performance gap between the RBR duo. While the team follows an orthodox strategy, the gap is still unacceptable. Talking to Motorsport, Horner accepted that the team needs answers regarding its drivers lineup. The pressure intensifies as Horner looks at his opponents. Both Ferrari and McLaren are set to field a strong squad for the upcoming season. The rivals are all ready, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc set to steer the Prancing Horse, while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will drive the Papaya squad.

Therefore, the Briton emphasized that the team can’t afford a huge gap between the two drivers. While Horner appears stressed about the ongoing issues, this statement is a subtle warning for Perez. The chimes of replacing the Mexican racer are getting loud. Especially with his stretched slump, the RBR squad runs out of patience. Thus, if Checo continues to be inconsistent, a long list of drivers is prepared to take over.
