Aerodynamics wizard Adrian Newey is widely regarded as one of the greatest technical minds in Formula 1 engineering. His 40 years of experience in motorsports is impeccable and irreplaceable. This year, Newey took a bold career decision to switch teams at the age of 65. Newey has been working with Red Bull Racing for the last two decades. However, a shift in team dynamics following a power struggle explosion forced Adrian out. He is set to become a free agent by the end of the 2025 season’s first quarter, and hence, the rivals are engaged in a rat race to lure Newey into their side. Notably, Scuderia Ferrari was believed to be the front-runner as rumors of a deal being locked in Monaco continued to swirl.
Amidst waves of speculations, another late entry has shocked the F1 fraternity. The latest update of Soy Motor suggests that Mercedes has entered the high-stake pursuit with a unique offer in hand. Apparently, Mercedes offered company shares to Adrian Newey, which essentially meant that Newey could be a part owner of the $1.4 billion motorsport company. Notably, team principal Toto Wolff is a part owner of the team, as he bought a significant hold of shares a few years back. That being said, while the German manufacturers have increased their stakes compared to the rivals, Adrian Newey is yet to take a final call on his future. Soy Motor added that Newey will contemplate Mercedes’ offer by next week after consulting his manager, Eddie Jordan, who also happens to be a former F1 team owner.
Adrian Newey Fuels Ferrari Rumors With Quirky Act At Monaco
Days leading up to the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix, rumors suggested that Adrian Newey’s signing to Ferrari was a done deal and that an imminent announcement was on the cards. However, Newey’s camp repeatedly clarified that Newey is not in a hurry to jump ships just yet. He will take his sweet time to decide what he wants to do.
That being said, at the Monaco Grand Prix, Adrian Newey was caught in the act when he signed a large size Ferrari flag for fans. He posed a sneaky smile while adhering to the fans’ request which further added fuel to the fire. Notably, neither Newey nor Ferrari have come forward to address the speculations just yet.
