Mercedes has been struggling with their car and its performance since 2022. Clearly, the ground effect rules and the cost cap limits have not been great changes for the Silver Arrows. They used to rule the F1 world from 2014 to 2021. The whole turbo-hybrid era belongs to the German outfit’s dominance. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton was the most dominant racer in that era. But things have changed dramatically since the introduction of the cost cap era. So far, in the last three years, the Brackley team has managed to win only one race. On the other hand, Red Bull has dominated the grid with 43 Grand Prix wins since 2022.

Moreover, they are still the favorites to win the ongoing championship. On the other hand, Mercedes is far from catching up to their arch-rivals. Currently, McLaren and Ferrari are faster than the Silver Arrows. Moreover, the team is struggling to understand the car’s strengths and weaknesses. Lately, though, Toto Wolff has mentioned that his team is moving in the right direction. However, he knows that there is a tough road ahead for his team this season.

Mercedes brought new upgrades for its car in the last few races. Moreover, these upgrades have been good and are pushing the team in the right direction. However, Toto Wolff says that it is not the end of their struggling days. There will be more challenges and obstacles for them to overcome in 2024. First of all, the German outfit had a disappointing start to the season. They redesigned the car after the last season. But still, W15 has been very inconsistent in terms of performance. Moreover, the Mercedes team has been dealing with correlation problems between their simulations and the on-track performances. Nevertheless, James Allison and Toto Wolff’s team found some sort of encouragement after they implemented the latest developments and improvements.

Lately, as per Autogear, Toto Wolff said the team knows now where the balance of the W15 car needs to be. Adding to that, Wolff said that considering the differences, in qualifying they were more or less different in Monaco. However, on the race day, Mercedes managed to close the gap to their competitors. Moreover, the team principal says they have been introducing incremental improvements so that they can enhance their performance. As a result, the trajectory has been going up in terms of what they saw lately. But he fears that the process can fluctuate like in a shell. Depending on the tracks, there will be ups and downs. But Toto Wolff is happy with their approach.

What’s The Goal Of Mercedes For The Future?

Toto Wolff believes the team can compete at the top of the standings this year despite they are fourth in the constructor’s standings. He said the overall expectation of the team is to keep improving every race. Moreover, as per the Mercedes boss, it seems they are taking inspirations from McLaren’s progress last year and same goes with Ferrari’s progress.

The Italian team made some incremental improvements as well. Hence, Toto Wolff believes the goal of his team is to challenge the leaders and fight for the title till the last race. Fighting for wins and podium finishes is what Mercedes is looking for in the near future.
