Recently, the iconic voice of the New York Yankees, John Sterling, announced his retirement. The 86-year-old radio commentator decided to retire in April because of his health issues. He has been the voice of the NY side for so many glorious years. Moreover, it was hard to ignore Sterling’s voice when the Bronx Bombers made the World Series and even won it several times in the last three decades. Derek Jeter led the iconic team to five World Series wins, and the voice of Sterling was the perfect icing on the cake. Now, can that happen one more time this year with Aaron Judge as the franchise’s 16th captain?

After a long time, the Yankees are looking pretty strong to make the ‘Big Dance.’ It happened after Juan Soto joined the mix. Moreover, the Judge-Soto duo has been outstanding this year, and that has helped them to solidify their place in the playoffs. Lately, though, the team has been going through a slump as they have lost three straight series. A little more than 20 games are left prior to the playoffs this year. Recently, the iconic voice of the NY side decided to make a comeback to radio commentary.

This October, John Sterling will make a comeback to the radio booth as the Bronx Bombers get ready to chase their 28th title. According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, the iconic Yankees voice will call both home as well as games on the road in the playoffs. So far, the plan is that Sterling will broadcast the final six games of this month. The last six games of the regular season will give the 86-year-old voice to get ready for the playoffs. Moreover, Sterling will reunite with his old longtime radio partner, Suzyn Waldman. Now, all eyes are on the Pinstripes, as only 22 games are remaining. They will enter the play again on Friday.

In the American League East division, the Yankees are at present sitting a half game behind the Baltimore Orioles. Anyway, John Sterling had announced his retirement last April. Albeit he had the same great voice, his health perhaps started to slow down in cooperating with him at 86. After Sterling announced his retirement, several announcers, including Rickie Ricardo, Justin Shackil, and Emmanuel Berbari, started to handle the play-by-play duties of WFAN. In fact, in the month of August, The Athletic was the first to report that Sterling can return to the radio booth around October.

Perhaps It Will Be The Last Year When Yankees Can Enjoy The Great Voice While Play-By-Play Commentary

Andrew Marchand reported that WFAN had offered John Sterling to make a comeback after retirement on Thursday. And the iconic play-by-play commentator of the Yankees radio accepted the offer. Last week, top executives of the NY side had signed off on the move. Next year, who knows who will call on the radio during the Yankees games?

Moreover, the return of John Sterling in October does not indicate that he will consider the possibility to do the same thing in 2025. Recently, Sterling told MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, “I can’t think of doing it next year. This October, it will be my last hurrah to doing MLB games.”
