REPORTS: Gleyber Torres Hints At Yankees Exit By Wiping Out His Instagram

Yankees, Gleyber Torres

The New York Yankees’ openness to trading second baseman Gleyber Torres has been apparent since 2022, when they reportedly explored potential deals in search of pitching upgrades. The team never managed to find the right match, but the possibility of his departure has loomed large for years.

In the meantime, Gleyber Torres worked hard to prove his value. In 2024, he moved to the leadoff spot, bringing power and reliability with a strong season overall. However, all that postseason glory will prove to not good enough as the second baseman seems more or less certain to leave the franchise this off-season.

Gleyber Torres Unfollows Yankees On Instagram

Gleyber Torres’ latest social media activity has sparked speculation about his future with the New York Yankees, as the talented infielder appears to have wiped his Instagram clean of Yankee references and possibly unfollowed the team. This seemingly small move has left fans and analysts wondering if Torres is preparing for a new chapter away from New York, especially as he enters MLB free agency this offseason. Rumors around Torres’ exit ramped up last week when general manager Brian Cashman praised infielder Caleb Durbin and offered little encouragement when discussing Torres’ own strengths, instead mentioning some areas of improvement in Torres’ game.  This subtle hint, combined with Torres’ social media wipe, has fueled speculation that the team may be looking to transition from Torres.

While Gleyber Torres has yet to draw widespread interest, the Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as a potential suitor, reportedly seeing him as a valuable addition to their infield. As he hits the open market without a qualifying offer, Torres could find his next team relatively quickly, with the lack of compensation requirements making him an attractive option for teams seeking infield power. The Yankees, on the other hand, might be looking internally to replace him, potentially giving Durbin a chance or moving Jazz Chisholm Jr. to fill the gap. While it’s not uncommon for players in free agency to alter their social media profiles, the timing and specifics of Torres’ changes have amplified the belief that his time in pinstripes is nearing an end.  His career in New York may have had its ups and downs, but Torres leaves a legacy of resilience and power, even as the Yanks look toward a new direction.

Gleyber Torres’ Potential Replacement To Cost A Bomb

The New York Yankees are exploring options to replace Gleyber Torres, who is expected to leave in free agency. One intriguing candidate is Willy Adames, currently a free agent after a career-high 32-home run season with the Milwaukee Brewers. This adjustment could seamlessly fill the gap left by Torres while strengthening the infield.

However, the Yankees may face financial constraints. Adames is projected to command a seven-year, $180 million contract, according to Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report.  If the Yankees also want to retain Juan Soto, whose price tag is anticipated to be as high as $600 million, the combined financial commitment could stretch their budget.
