Substandard offensive production doomed the New York Yankees 2023 MLB season campaign. While Aaron Judge spent a ridiculous amount of time on IL, his peers didn’t help the team either. Overall, it was a bizarre display from a franchise that is widely known for its audacious hitting ability.

Thus, ahead of the 2024 MLB season, wherein the Yankees not only dream of falling back into World Series condition but also winning the championship for real, the club improved its hitting lineup. A couple of trade deals surely helped the cause. Moreover, Yankee skipper Aaron Boone recently opened up on how he plans to manage the lineup in 2024.

To make things right after a lost MLB season, the New York Yankees tried to build an evil empire ahead of the impending MLB season. The front office traded superstar Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres and Alex Verdugo from the Boston Red Sox in a steep exchange deal. However, with the championship on the line, the franchise embraced the risks. Having said that, Yankee skipper Aaron Boone recently spoke with MLB insider Bryan Hoch and shared his outlook on the Yanks’ hitting lineup for the 2024 season. He admitted that he scribbled a lot this off-season trying to find the right batting order. Not only that, Boone will continue to do so until he discovers the right lineup.

Aaron Boone also shed light on how an excess number of left-handed options grants him the freedom to play around the hitting lineup as needed. “Potentially, for the first time in a while, we have a chance to have three, four, five lefties or righties on a given day. To be able to alternate them is something that would be pretty nice,” Boone said. Further addressing Juan Soto’s situation, the manager said that if the team manages to get some health around Soto, they could build a special lineup for the 2024 season. Boone also believes that Soto is a tremendous fit owing to his left-hand prowess. Overall, Boone has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to put the pieces in the right order. Undoubtedly, the Yanks’ hitting lineup construction for the 2024 season will be an exciting tale to witness.

Finally, here’s a piece of good news for the New York Yankees. Key starting pitcher Nestor Cortes has resumed throwing pitches after a long withstanding injury layoff. Cortes suffered from rotator cuff strain twice in 2023, which led to an immediate shutdown. Since then, the pitcher has been under a rigorous rehab process. Having said that, ahead of spring training, Cortes is getting some reps this off-season.

In a video shared by the pitcher himself, Nestor Cortes is seen throwing pitches at an undisclosed ground location. It’s the first time Cortes has resumed pitching after his shoulder injury. Earlier, he initiated ground practice by playing catch. Nonetheless, the starter’s return to grind is a promising sign for the New York Yankees, who lack pitch depth at the moment.
