Red Bull Boss Christian Horner Admits Mercedes Could Be A Threat During The French Grand Prix!

Mercedes have performed impressively over the last few racing weekends after struggling with their porpoising issues since the start of the 2022 championship. The Silver Arrows battled violent bouncing and had to compromise with their performance to make their car drivable. However, the reigning constructors have finally found a solution to their issues and showcased some competitive pace during the last two outings in Silverstone and Austria. Lewis Hamilton seemed to have got back into the world champion groove. He secured three back-to-back podiums in Canada, Silverstone, and Austria.

Recently, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shared his thought on Mercedes\’ progress this season. The former British admitted that the Silver Arrows could pose a threat to the frontrunners Red Bull and Ferrari during the upcoming French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard. Horner stated that his team expected Mercedes to be quick in Paul Ricard. Mercedes has definitely gained pace and showed no signs of porpoising during the last two races. Christian felt that the German outfit is slowly back into the game. He expects a three-way championship fight coming ahead.

Mercedes had a rough start to the year as they fell quite behind in both the championship. Lewis Hamilton struggled with the newly designed W13, posing porpoising issues. The Silver Arrows worked really hard to get rid of the bouncing. However, they failed on a consistent basis before the FIA intervened to sort out the issue, following drivers\’ safety concerns. 

Horner Teases A Three-Way Battle

After almost ten races, Mercedes finally seemed to have got their car right. Hamilton clinched three straight podiums and hoped that their first win of the season. The Briton has won at least a single race every season. However, this season has been quite challenging for the seven-time world champ. He lost a chance of winning his eighth during the last year\’s Abu Dhabi GP.

The Silver Arrows are currently third in the constructor\’s rankings with 237 points and seven podiums. Red Bull is on top with a hefty 122-point lead over the Silver Arrows. Meanwhile, Ferrari is second in the championship standings, 66 points behind as a result of some reliability concerns.

Further, Horner believes that Mercedes could be in contention for the constructors\’ championship this year. The Red Bull boss said that the Silver Arrows keep scoring points. He was unsure how far Mercedes were in both championships. But the Briton pointed out that it was good to have more cars in contention sometimes. And a six-car battle between three teams would be brilliant for the fans.
