Rahul Dravid impressed everyone with his domestic performances, and with their help, he eventually got a call-up in 1994. However, he failed to make the Playing XI. He returned to domestic Cricket and smashed a few more hundreds before making his ODI debut in April 1996. After two months after his ODI debut, he also played his inaugural test match in June 1996 against England.

When it comes to ODI, Rahul Dravid has played a total of 344 matches and scored a total of 10,889 runs with an average of 39.16. 

Unfortunately, ICT dropped Rahul Dravid from ODIs in 2009. However, BCCI surprisingly recalled Dravid in 2011 for a series against England. Dravid announced that he would retire from ODI after this series. Rahul Dravid has only played one T20I which was also his last limited-over game. On March 9, 2012, Rahul Dravid announced his retirement from the longer format of the game as well.

Rahul Dravid started his mentoring journey when he became the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He also became the Head coach of India A and India U-19 teams. Under his tutelage, the India U-19 team became the runner-up at the 2016 World Cup and lifted the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Initially, Dravid refused to take up the position of the Head Coach of India as he wanted to focus on the upcoming generation of Cricket. However, Saurav Ganguly and Jay Shah managed to convince him, and then he finally applied for this position to complete the formalities. 

In November 2021, BCCI appointed Rahul Dravid as the Head coach of India. He signed a two-year deal, and his tenure will end after the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup. Dravid’s coaching, along with Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, did receive some criticism in the most recent 2022 T20I Cricket World Cup.
