The New York Yankees’ off-season trade acquisition of Alex Verdugo from arch-rivals Boston Red Sox was met with mixed reaction as fans were doubtful of Verdugo’s ability to fit into New York. But not only did Alex fit in, but fell in love with the organization in no time.

Alex Verdugo returned to Fenway Park on Friday for the first time since he became a Yankee, and he expected to be received as one. However, the Yankees left fielder also didn’t come unprepared as he single-handedly trashed his former team to claim a massive 8-1 series-opening win for the Yanks.

Fenway Park wasn’t the same for Alex Verdugo on Friday as he walked into a Yankee uniform amidst a wave of boos from the crowd. However, his teammates ignited a fire in him, which pumped a lot of adrenaline as Alex shut the crowd in style. On the very first pitch he faced in Fenway Park, the former Red Sox outfielder slammed a massive two-run bomb at the dead centre to avail an early 2-0 lead to the Yankees. As he rounded the bases, Verdugo barked and shouted, “HELL YEAH, LET ME HEAR IT.” His teammates back in the dugout were equally pumped and welcomed him with loud barks. That being said, Verdugo’s night was just getting started.

He ended up going 3-for-5 to guide the New York Yankees to a comprehensive 8-1 victory. Meanwhile, Alex Verdugo shared his thoughts on how returning to Fenway Park was a bittersweet feeling. But in hindsight, he understands that the trade happened for a reason, and he is exactly where he needs to be with the Yanks. He gets to be himself in the Bronx and show the Yankee fans what he can do on the other side of the rivalry.

“Now they’re seeing it all the way around. I think they just really like the energy that I bring,” Verdugo said. The left-handed hitter added that hitting a home run off the first pitch was like relief from the anticipation that has been building around since the past week. At the end of the day, Alex Verdugo was happy to take his team, which is the Yanks, through the finish line.
