As the playoff race inches towards its final destination, the New York Yankees are getting desperate. The pressure to secure the playoff wildcard post, which is still 9.5 games away, is mounting with each passing day. The current roster looks incapable of producing a miracle, as they recently lost a close game to the lowly Washington Nationals.

Hence, the New York Yankees are making desperate moves. Ahead of the series opener against the Nationals, the Bronx Bombers announced multiple roster moves as a major chunk of players were shuffled. While a key starter marked his much-awaited return, a young outfielder was DFA’d to make space for the in-form prospect.

Yankees Promote Everson Pereira, Recall Oswald Peraza In Latest Roster Moves

Greg Allen, Carlos Rodon

As the playoff odds fell into jeopardy, the New York Yankees resorted to desperate plans. In the latest roster move, Carlos Rodon, the prized starter, was activated from 15-day IL. He suffered from a hamstring strain against the Astros. But thankfully, he recovered within the set timeline. Further, outfielder Greg Allen, who replaced veteran Aaron Hicks mid-season, has been designated for assignment to clear up space on the 40-man roster. Allen showed encouraging signs after his debut, but injuries shunted his growth. Also, another regular outfielder Billy McKinney has been placed on 10-day IL due to back spasms. Billy has had his moments of success in a short stint, but the injury is likely to keep him out for an extended period of time.

Lastly, in the most awaited roster move, the New York Yankees have promoted outfield prospect Everson Pereira into the big leagues. The prospect raked minor league by hitting .300, with 53 runs in 81 combined games for Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. Moreover, Everson is expected to solve the Yanks’ long-withstanding outfield woe. Along with Pereira, infield prospect Oswald Peraza also received a call-up. Aaron Boone, the team manager, confirmed that both the prospects will be playing a “lot” towards the last stretch of the season. The duo will likely play as regular starters once the playoff odds fall out of the picture. With these latest roster moves, the Yanks have embarked on their final playoff push.

22-year-old outfield prospect Everson Pereira is living his dream life as he made a debut for the Yankees on Tuesday against the Nationals. The prospect went 0-for-4 on his debut night but displayed encouraging signs. Further speaking on the promotion, Everson said that his approach will not change in MLB. He has always had the mindset to win, and it will remain the same till he plays baseball. Pereira believes a competitive team like the Yankees needs a player who is willing to win for them.

It’s not about how and what you do. It is about your intent of giving the best on the field. Everson Pereira wants to do everything in his power to contribute, be it running bases, making plays, or hitting the ball consistently. The prospect wants to live up to the fan’s and organization’s expectations. Overall, this is a lifetime opportunity for Pereira. He needs to use the time and put up a performance worthy enough to get him a permanent roster spot in 2024.
