“On My Last Nerve Already,” MLB Analyst Tears Into Yankees Struggling Second Baseman

Gleyber Torres, Yankees

Despite a strong 13-6 start to the season, the New York Yankees have some loopholes that are hard to ignore as the season progresses. For starters, Aaron Judge has lost touch with his old self and is unfortunately struggling to connect hits, thus making it an unprecedented situation for the Bombers.

Secondly, second baseman Gleyber Torres, who is coming off his best offensive season, is yet to tonk a home run in 72 at-bats. Moreover, Torres’s unforgivable miscues in the infield have irked WFAN radio host Brandon Tierney, who called for the slugger’s immediate ouster from the roster.

Gleyber Torres, coming off a strong offensive season in 2023, has seen his production decline sharply this year. Owing to his last season heroics, Torres bagged a $15 million arbitration contract by the Yankees and subsequently entered his walk year this season. However, the previous season’s form hasn’t translated as Torres not only struggled on the plate but also lapsed multiple times in defense, which fans and analysts frustrated. In a recent WFAN show, host Brandon Tierney expressed his frustration, saying that Torres has gotten on his nerves with his questionable performances. Tierney opined that the infielder should have been traded last year itself. But a decent offensive season saved the day. Regardless, with Torres becoming a free agent by the end of the year, Tierney wants him out as soon as possible.

“He looks awful. I can’t wait until he’s gone,” said Brandon Tierney. The WFAN host argued that in 72 at-bats, Gleyber Torres is yet to hit a home run and is hitting with a mere .208 average. At this pace, Torres would only end up with 18 RBIs by the end of the year, which is inexcusable and unacceptable. Besides abysmal offensive numbers, the second baseman also misused the field a couple of times, which led to a few crucial losses for the New York Yankees. Anthony Volpe also replaced him as the leadoff hitter. And with DJ LeMahieu set to return next week, Aaron Boone could be tempted to field hot Oswaldo Cabrera at second base, thus pushing Torres onto the bench. However, the skipper still has faith in Torres to break free from this mess. “I do feel like he’s close to taking off,” said Boone.

Yankees Bolster Outfield Depth In Latest Roster Move!

On Thursday, the New York Yankees announced a significant roster move as they confirmed claiming outfielder Taylor Trammell off waivers from the LA Dodgers. Furthermore, to make space for Taylor, the team designated infielder Kevin Smith for assignment. This is Taylor’s third move of the season so far.

He entered the 2024 MLB season with the Seattle Mariners before the LA Dodgers claimed him, only to put the outfielder on waivers again. Needless to say, Trammell managed only six at-bats this year and is yet to record a hit. Regardless, Taylor Trammell will purely serve as a backup outfield for Yankees this year as the starting slots are full.
