Los Angeles Lakers had a season to remember. They had a poor start. The team’s roster had no balance but had several injury issues. The way they started, it was quite impossible to think that the Lakers would make the postseason this time. The fans had no reason to feel optimistic. Since Los Angeles Lakers won their 17th title in the 2019-20 season, they kept performing poorly for the following seasons. Moreover, last season, the Lakers could not even make the postseason.
It was a terrible situation that the team was going through. However, Rob Pelinka, the Lakers General Manager, made some quality trade deals before the February deadline. After that, the Lakers had a breath of fresh air with valuable players joining the roster. Hence, the Lakers got the balance they were looking for. Many of these players who joined the team in February played crucial roles in helping the Los Angeles Lakers reach the Western Conference Finals. In the offseason the LA side might try to sign the 38 year old point guard Chris Paul of the Phoneix Suns.
Chris Paul Might Be A Better Option Than Kyrie Irving For LA To Sign In
The Lakers are trying to figure out a way to extend the contracts of players like Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and even D’Angelo Russell. Moreover, unlike AR and Rui, D’Lo is an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. On top of that, the Lakers might use D’Angelo Russell to buy Kyrie Irving. The star of the Lakers, King James, has been rooting for Irving to join the franchise for a long time. Moreover, it would make LeBron James really happy to reunite with Kyrie Irving after their Cleveland Cavaliers days. But the question is if Irving or D’Lo are the best options for a point guard for the Lakers. There is another point guard who can be a viable option for the Lakers.
Chris Paul of the Phoneix Suns is also an old friend of LeBron James. The LA side can trade Malik Beasley and Mo Bamba, along with some future round picks to sign in Chris Paul. The Suns would be happy to receive quality players like Beasley and Bamba on their roster. On the other hand, the Lakers might trade D’Angelo Russell as a sign-and-trade deal with the Suns. However, Chris Paul is 38 years old, but he is still strong, sharp, and quick. He is an elite ball-handler, passer, and shooter. On the other hand, the Phoenix Suns will be lucky to have an above-average point guard, D’Lo Russell. Hence, the LA side signing in the Point Guard Chris Paul is a viable option.
Lakers Had A Great Run But Unfortunately Had To Come To An End In WCF
However, all good things have an expiry date at some point. Hence, the Lakers lost to Denver Nuggets in a humiliating fashion in the finals of the West. Moreover, the Nuggets enjoyed their first-ever conference final victory, thanks to Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray’s brilliance. On the other hand, Los Angeles franchise has to take care of the roster once the offseason begins.
It is a tricky situation for Rob Pelinka and the Laker’s front office to figure out who they can keep and who they have to let go. The LA side probably won’t gamble with the positions of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Due to the presence of these two top players, the LA side don’t have an abundant cap space like the Houston Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs, or the Orlando Magic.
