New York Yankees Getting Cold-Feet In Signing Andrew Benintendi? What Are The Chances Of His Return?

Benintendi Yankees

Last week, the Yankees finally grabbed their most prized possession, Aaron Judge, from the free agency for a huge contract of USD 360 million. However, just like life, the free agency market also does not stop for anyone. After A Judge, the outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been the center of attention in the free agents market. And several teams like Houston Astros, Blue Jays, and Chicago White Sox are in contention for the player in addition to the usual New York Yankees. However, some new reports claim that the Yankees\’ interest in Benintendi might have dropped after signing Carlos Rodon.

Are Yankees Still Lookin To Sign Andrew Benintendi?

At the 2022 trade deadline, the New York Yankees acquired Kansas City Royals outfielder Andrew Benintendi. However, according to a report from the New York Post, it would seem that they are unwilling to provide the free agent with a new five-year contract. Thus, keeping Benintendi would be beneficial to the Pinstripes.

As per a report NJ.com report from December 9, Benintendi\’s presence is a priority goal for the Yankees this offseason. According to Kuty, Benintendi also informed the Yankees that he would be interested in returning at the conclusion of the season. And general manager Brian Cashman reaffirmed his desire to keep the seasoned outfielder.

The 28-year-old recently experienced one of his greatest years. In 126 games, he hit .304/.373/.399. He also had 51 RBI and five home homers. Prior to missing time in September due to a fractured hamate bone, he played 33 games with the Yankees. And hit just.254/.331/.404 with two home runs and 12 RBI. Benintendi\’s potential comeback during the team\’s postseason run was something New York was hoping for. However, Andrew Benintendi could not re-enter the lineup. The Houston Astros swept the New York Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

New York looked for Andrew Benintendi to maybe make a comeback during the team\’s playoff run. He could not rejoin the lineup, though, as the Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. For the services of Benintendi, the Yankees will face tough competition. In addition, the Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, and Chicago White Sox have all been mentioned as the 2021 Gold Glove winners.

Aaron Hicks and maybe Giancarlo Stanton would have to be used in combination in left field if the Yankees didn\’t keep Andrew Benintendi, which isn\’t the best option. They might also change their attention to anything else. Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates is another player that has been connected to the Yankees. The squad with different power sources and a true World Series contender would be the ideal destination for him.
