New York Yankees Can Still Acquire A Failed Trade Target Next Off-Season

The New York Yankees were tipped to be aggressive buyers at the recently concluded trade deadline as their playoff aspirations fell in jeopardy following an unacceptable losing streak. However, the front office could only materialise three moves, including outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr, who is now playing as a third baseman.

That being said, the New York Yankees were also in the mix of signing a starting pitcher, given the lack of depth that surfaced due to Clarke Schmidt’s injury. However, despite being front runner to trade Chicago White Sox ace, the Yanks failed to materialise the pursuit. However, that door might open again in the upcoming off-season.

Can Yankees Make A Push For Garrett Crochet Next Off-Season?

The New York Yankees, always on the lookout for bolstering their roster, previously showed interest in acquiring Garrett Crochet, a promising left-handed pitcher from the Chicago White Sox. The front office pursued him aggressively at the trade deadline. However, the White Sox, despite being the worst team of the season, refused to budge. Regardless, USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale expects Crochet to be dealt this coming off-season. Garrett Crochet, a 6’6″ southpaw, could emerge as a significant upgrade option for the Yanks this coming season. With Nestor Cortes and Clarke Schmidt’s future uncertain, signing an ace of Crochet’s calibre could be game-changing for the Bronx-based team.

Of course, concerns over Garrett Crochet’s innings limit and durability are bound to rise, given his recent shift from the bullpen to the rotation. However, in his first full season as a starting pitcher, Crochet owns a 3.19 ERA in 22 starts with 162 strikeouts. His command has been impeccable, and he has a high-velocity fastball that often touches 100 mph. Having said that, trading Garrett Crochet would require careful consideration from the front office. General manager Brian Cashman is already hesitant about giving up the farm system as he wants to protect prospects like Jasson Dominguez, Ben Rice and Spencer Jones. Hence, any trade proposal would be dicey to stack. Regardless, given the lack of pitching options in the market, Crochet could be the Yanks’ best bet if they want to upgrade the starting rotation and elevate their odds of winning multiple championships in the future.

Anthony Volpe Aims The Big Prize In Sophomore Season

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees’ newest shortstop sensation, Anthony Volpe, revealed his big dream in the ongoing sophomore season. Volpe’s debut last year was a roller coaster ride marked by highs and lows. However, the kid definitely levelled up his game this season, and despite inconsistency, he has been relatively better.

That being said, with playoff aspirations at stake, Anthony Volpe revealed that the primary goal of the New York Yankees is not just to qualify for the postseason but also to win. That’s the standard the team has set for themselves, and they will strive hard to achieve the same. “It’s to win it all. That’s the standard. We think about that every day,” Volpe said to the New York Post.
