Since Pete Alonso made his MLB debut, people have been comparing him to Aaron Judge. The New York Mets superstar broke the rookie record of the NY Yankees captain in 2019. Moreover, the California native had a tremendous rookie season in 2017. He hit 52 home runs in his MLB debut season. Moreover, he went on to win the Home Run Derby that year. The Yankees captain was the first MLB rookie to do so. On top of that, the league named him an All-Star in his debut season. That’s how good Aaron Judge has been since his rookie year.

Later, in 2019, the first baseman of the New York Mets surpassed Judge as he hit 53 home runs in his rookie season. After getting one better than the Yankees captain, Pete Alonso has always drawn comparisons with the city rival. However, in Judge’s defence, he has been very injury-prone. Hence, he could have had an even better record than he has now. Anyway, lately, an MLB Analyst shreds a comparison of Aaron Judge and the Mets superstar.

Why Aaron Judge Is Way Better Than Pete Alonso?

Due to Judge’s issues with injuries, Pete Alonso has been hitting more home runs than him since 2019. Recently, MLB insider Chris McMonigle stepped in to say that no matter what, Judge is better than Alonso. During a discussion via Audacy, McMonigle said that these comparisons are getting way out of hand. Fans compare Judge and Alonso as the best of the best power hitters available in the league right now. But Chris McMonigle mentioned that at present, the Yankees captain is doubling the first baseman of the Mets in home runs so far in 2024. The MLB insider gave due credit to Alonso for being a great slugger and one of the best HR hitters in MLB. However, McMonigle claims that Alonso is in no way close to Judge in “Any shape or form, including sheer power.”

Sometimes, fans need to bring in the health asterisk into the picture as the Yankees captain hit a lot of homers whenever he is healthy. Currently, Aaron Judge is already leading the league with 32 home runs, and it is not even the time of the All-Star break. McMonigle says Pete Alonso deserves to be in the Home Run derby, but questions if it’s right to call him the best homer hitter barring none. Moreover, the MLB Analyst pointed at the record-breaking 62 home runs of Judge. He also added that the way things stand, Judge can possibly finish the 2024 season hitting around 55 HRs.

What Does the Recordbook Say About This Comparison?

Pete Alonso had a great rookie season in 2019. He has hit the most home runs in the league since 2019. Alonso has 210. On the other hand, Aaron Judge, who has played 142 fewer games, has hit 206 home runs. Anyway, other than the most home run-hitting category since 2019, the Yankees captain has an edge over the Mets’ first baseman. The 2022 AL MVP leads the league in wRC+ with 175 since 2019. On the other hand, the Mets slugger ranks 22nd in that category.

When it comes to isolated and sheer power, the California native is numero uno again with .320. Pete Alonso comes in sixth with .270. Even in terms of fWAR, Aaron Judge leads the league with 32.5 fWAR despite sustaining several injuries. Alonso’s fWAR is 16.5. Besides the total home run that has suffered due to injuries, Judge has been superior to everybody since 2019.
