Mercedes\’ Toto Wolff Downplays Lewis Hamilton\’s Hopes Of Winning On Home Turf In Silverstone!

Mercedes Toto Wolff

Mercedes are clearly struggling in the 2022 championship. They have failed to win a single one out of the seven races so far. The porpoising issue severely affected the Silver Arrows\’, which they eventually managed to counter with the upgrades in Spain. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had by far the most promising run in Barcelona as they finished P5 and P3. While George clinched his second podium, Hamilton came all the way from the back of the field after making contact with Kevin Magnussen early in the race.

The seven-time world champ finished fifth. And his team felt that he had the race pace to win if the puncture had not delayed him. However, things began to go down again at the bumpy track in Monaco, where the stiffness of the W13 caused a different kind of bouncing. As a result, George could only finish P5 while Lewis ended in P8 as he could not get past Fernando Alonso.

After the weekend in Monaco, Hamilton is optimistic about delivering a race win at his home circuit in Silverstone during the British Grand Prix next month. The Briton hoped that Mercedes would have the car where they needed it by Silverstone. There, he would be able to fight for a win at the front. Hamilton revealed that he is working hard each day to get ready for battle on his home turf and deliver the best race possible to the fans.

However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff does not feel the same way as Hamilton. The team principal predicted that the Silver Arrows might face similar complications in Baku that surfaced in Monaco. Toto added, \”The problem is we can say it is a track where it is going to be a little better. Like in Barcelona, or a track that is worse like Monaco.\”

Wolff Responds Realistically To Hamilton\’s Silverstone Win Hopes:

It will be extremely hard for Mercedes as they clearly lack the pace and performance to fight the frontrunners, Red Bull and Ferrari. Wolff admitted that Mercedes are the third-best team, not the second or fourth. He added that despite having two very strong drivers, the team is frustrated about not being able to cover the gap. Wolff said that the gap that the Silver Arrows have is not acceptable. The outfit deserves to be fighting at the front.

Wolff & Hamilton

While Mercedes work hard to get their W13, George Russell has been consistent during his rookie season for the team, with top 5 finishes in all seven races of the season. Meanwhile, Hamilton has failed to secure points on a couple of occasions. However, the Briton hopes to repeat last year\’s feat at home by winning a race at Silverstone.
