Since 2022, the Mercedes team has attempted every configuration to maximize its capabilities. However, it was all in vain, as the Brackley-based squad continued to slip away. The ground effect was the most significant impediment to the technical team’s ability to construct a competitive Formula One chassis. While Red Bull had a great run, the Silver Arrows experienced a series of problems.

However, after nearly two years of disappointment, the technical team has finally hit the appropriate key. Since the massive makeover in Miami, the W15 vehicle has undergone a full metamorphosis. While it appeared ‘out of control’ on weekends, the aerodynamic changes improved the balance. As a consequence, the club enjoyed one of its best performances of the season in Canada. Moreover, the team is confident in accelerating the momentum as the F1 reaches Spanish land. However, to everyone’s surprise, the team didn’t announce any upgrades before the weekend. Reports suggest that there is a hidden factor that the team’s performance may rely upon.

No Big Changes For Mercedes As They Gear Up For ‘Stern Test’ In Barcelona

The Barcelona weekend is a few hours away, so the F1 teams have revealed FIA’s official car presentation document. While every team has some or other changes for the conventional track, Mercedes will continue with the Canada setup. Moreover, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is perfect for the teams to introduce upgrades. The circuit offers a set of challenges to the F1 car, allowing the team to understand its true nature. Thus, Ferrari introduced seven revised updates, while Red Bull had listed six upgrades. However, Mercedes had zero entries in the FIA’s document. On this, team principal Toto Wolff said the car is fitted with minor new parts, which aren’t visible.

However, according th Motorsport.com, the Brackley-based outfit will use a lighter floor variation. Conjointly, the document didn’t mention it because of the same design with less weight. Although no significant changes are visible, the weight cut would improve W15’s performance. Further, Mercedes’s redemption started with the Miami upgrade as they trimmed the front wing. Since then, the team has capitalized on the front wing design, improving in the aerodynamic domain. Later, the technical crew introduced rigorous upgrades, both small and big. Consequently, the German Marque had one of the best outings of the 2024 season in Canada.

Hamilton The Quickest As He Sets Time In FP2

The result of Mercedes upgrades is a transition to its on-track performance. During the second practice session, Lewis Hamilton was the quickest among the lot, finishing ahead of Charle Leclerc and Lando Norris.

The Silver Arrows have always performed well during the FP sessions, which is due to the car’s short run. However, as the weekend approaches, the W15 suddenly gets sick and delivers underwhelming results. On the other hand, the James Allison-led crew would expect the car to perform similarly during Saturday qualifying.
