Mercedes was hit by serious accusations of purposely sabotaging Lewis Hamilton in his farewell year to protect George Russell’s needs after the Canada Grand Prix. Lewis added fuel to the fire after he said that he does not expect to beat Russell in qualifying sessions throughout his final year at Brackley.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, an anonymous email from a person claiming to be a Mercedes employee dropped into the journalists’ inbox and claimed that the team was sabotaging Lewis Hamilton’s races and that the media people should ask the right questions to unearth the truth. However, an enraged Toto Wolff has vowed revenge to protect the integrity of his team.
Toto Wolff Confirms Mercedes Filed Police Enquiry Against Alleged Sabotage Email
Mercedes’ troubles on the track were enough to give sleepless nights to team principal Toto Wolff. However, off-track drama has completely distracted the team from its core responsibilities. A few days ago, a person claiming to be a Mercedes employee sent emails to journalists confirming that the team is purposely sabotaging Lewis Hamilton’s races, which is severely impacting his mental health. The email, supposedly from concerned employees, urged the media persons to ask the right questions to unveil the truth. However, Toto Wolff confirmed that the email didn’t come from his team. He added that people working in F1 receive this kind of baseless emails on a daily basis. But he is raged by this because it talks about death.
Hence, to protect the image of the team, Toto Wolff confirmed that he had instructed Mercedes to file a police complaint and go into depth about the origin of the email. Wolff took a strong stand against online abuse and reprimanded lunatics for creating false narratives of conspiracies. “People can’t hide behind their computers and abuse teams or drivers like this,” Wolff said. The Austrian reaffirmed that the Silver Arrows have built a strong connection of trust with Lewis Hamilton in the past 12 years. Everybody is committed to give Hamilton a fitting farewell and finish things on a high. However, some toxic and mad fans cannot comprehend this and must seek help, opined Toto Wolff. Notably, Lewis also refused to confirm the authenticity of the email, saying he hadn’t read it and had no idea where it came from.
Ferrari Boss Calls Sabotage Claims Against Lewis Hamilton ‘Irrational’
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton’s future boss and Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur has rejected the sabotage claims against Mercedes. He said that a team of approximately 1500 people work day and night in any F1 team to bring out upgrades on a consistent basis. The combination of upgrade packages also involves a lot of monetary investments.
Hence, after all this, what team in their right mind would even think of killing one of their cars? The idea of Mercedes sabotaging Lewis Hamilton’s races purposely is completely irrational to Fred Vasseur. “This is completely irrational, and nobody in the paddock could do something like this,” Fred Vassuer added.
