In Formula one, we see the car’s battles going on the track. Apparently, from the drivers to each staff member of the teams leads conflicts and wars with their rival counterparts. There are competitors in almost every field of Formula One, from the team’s bosses to the engine providers. But the only thing that has no rivalry is the TYRES. The tyres that play a huge role in the overall team’s performance basically give the same service to all the cars.
Once, you might have heard drivers like Alonso Fernando speaking on the fair play of Formula One, which is only possible if all the teams get the same engines. But you must have never heard anyone speaking about the tyres, because all of them get the same Pirelli tyres, very fair, right? But the two time world champion, Max Verstappen, recently came out to speak on the tyres war, which unfortunately does not exist in Formula One.
Pirelli is an Italian firm that provides tyres to all the ten teams of Formula One. There is no competition for the brand at all. Do you know what happens when there are competition and rivals in the markets? DEVELOPMENT AND CHANCES OF GROWTH. Only through the fear of getting beaten by the opponents one make the product better. As there is no other tyre provider except for Pirelli, there is no scope for progress in the Formula One car’s tyre’s quality.
“Take It Easy Pirelli,” Says Max Verstappen
In addition, Pirelli has been providing tyres to the teams since 2011. Earlier, there were competitors between the counterparts when there was the Japanese company along with the French and Michelin via their Ferrari and Renault teams. However, as at present there is no competition available in the market, Max Verstappen believes there is no need to worry about it.
Red Bull started believing that, yes, when there was a war between the tyres, it helped the brands push everything they had in terms of resources. But when “you do not have a tyre war, you just need to take it easy.” Especially focusing on Pirelli, Max has suggested they take it easy. He clarified, “Don’t get me wrong, but it still costs lots of money. You need to find another two or three-tenths.”
Besides, Max Verstappen explains that it is possible [having another supplier in the market]. But he guesses that there is a need for more discussions. Max made it very much clear that he was not being negative here. But he believes that there is a need to find better tyres. He himself would love to work with them, finding better tyres because it will create even better-wet weather racing.
All that Max Verstappen wants is “better” in everything present in Formula One. And he hopes that Pirelli wants it too. He revealed his idea that he would try to talk to them very soon.
