Max Verstappen has been the biggest and most dominant racer on the grid in the modern era. Red Bull is lucky to have him because even if they have the right car, it is not possible to win title after title without the best driver. Clearly, the Dutch racer has proven that he is one of the best of all time. Last year, he won his third consecutive World Championship, entering the elite group that included names like Ayrton Senna, Jackie Stewart, and so on.
This season, the Dutch racer is on his way to winning his fourth straight title. However, the Red Bull car this year is not as good as RB19. Last season, the Austrian outfit won 21 out of 22 races. But in 2024, they have already lost three races to McLaren (1) and Ferrari (2). At present, Max and the team are dealing with kerb-riding issues. But Verstappen believes they can fix the car without compromising the strength of the RB20 car.
Max Verstappen Is Positive About Fixing The RB20 Car Without Losing Its Major Strength
After Sunday’s race, the Dutch racer was victorious again, and he talked about the car in the post-race interview. It was important for him to get back to winning ways as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the Monaco GP the previous weekend. Hence, winning in Montreal was more than satisfactory for the Austrian outfit and the triple-time champion racer. He is trying to solidify his place at the top of the standings. Anyway, after Sunday’s race, Max Verstappen told the media, including Sportskeeda, that Red Bull is struggling a lot in the kerbs and bumps. Hence, they definitely have a key area where they need to work on. Then, they can greatly improve the car. But Max believes at first, they need to “Get that under control.”
Moreover, the reigning champion believes they can solve the problem without trading away the strengths that made the car so competitive. On Sunday, Max said the kerb riding performance was “Non-existent.” Despite knowing that it is their weakness, Verstappen has faith in the team that has been working “Flat-out on it, trying to fix it.” Most importantly, the Dutch racer believes that this component is a big limitation for the RB20 car’s performance. At least, that’s how it is at the moment. The next few races should suit the Austrian team more because they won’t be as weak there as they have been in Miami and in Monaco.
The Dutchman Is Optimistic About The Upcoming Races
After Sunday’s race, the Red Bull superstar mentioned that it is quite natural to look for tracks without such kerbs and bumps. Those circuits will help RB20 more than the tracks in Monaco and Miami did. Max Verstappen pointed out that every weekend, one particular team is stronger than based on a specific track. That’s where the strengths and weaknesses of the cars play a huge part.
But most importantly, with different teams and drivers enjoying success on different tracks, the season gets more exciting. It is great for the fans and the sport. Verstappen is quite aware of the impact of that. Moreover, during the race in Montreal, Max Verstappen told his team, “It’s a very bad ride, like a locked suspension all over again.” But after Verstappen won, the team principal, Christian Horner, mentioned, “However, it’s not that bad for a kangaroo.”
