The New York Yankees were swept by Cincinnati Reds at home on Thursday in what turned out to be awful July 4th night. While the fans turned up at Yankee Stadium to celebrate the holidays, they left with disappointment as the beloved Yanks failed to held on to their standards.

Meanwhile, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s managerial style, often described as player-friendly and laid-back, is now under scrutiny. Trent Grisham’s embarrassing defensive gaffe in center field tested the fans patience and one MLB commentator held Boone responsibly for giving too much leeway to his players.

Aaron Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, has recently faced harsh criticism, being labelled a “loser manager” for not holding Trent Grisham accountable for his on-field performances. All hell broke loose when Grisham, stationed in that centre field, showed a lack of intent in collecting a line hit by Jeimer Candelario in the top of the ninth inning. Grisham came down to the ball casually and fumbled while trying to throw it back into the infield, which converted Jeimer’s single into a double. As soon as the Reds hitter stormed to the second base, loud boos came raining down from the crowd and rightly so, as Trent had made an inexcusable lapse in the outfield.

That being said, with the New York Yankees losing 8-4 in the series finale, MLB commentator Tommy Smokes came down heavy on manager Aaron Boone. He suggested that players like Trent Grisham are making such gaffes regularly as the skipper has spoiled them with freedom by not holding them accountable for their mistakes. The current backlash highlights the fine line managers must walk between supporting their players and demanding high standards. Boone’s critics believe he has leaned too far towards leniency, allowing underperforming players like Grisham to avoid necessary consequences. Needless to say, the New York Yankees, a team with high expectations and a storied history, are under pressure to deliver results. They have lost 12 of the last 19 games and dropped six series on the trot, which resulted in a sweep on Thursday.

The New York Yankees’ series finale contest with Cincinnati Reds heated up after both sides players engaged in a standoff during national anthem. Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet held their ground at the Yanks deck whereas Graham Ashcraf and Carson Spiers came out for the Reds. Both sides refused to stand down and the deadlock went over for five minutes before umpires intervened.

After umpires warned both sides’ pitchers, Yankees manager Aaron Boone called Hamilton and Poteet back into the dugout, thus ending the standoff. However, the moment went viral on the internet, thus adding a twist to the competitive matchup. For the Cincinnati Reds, the standoff gave them an edge as they walked over the hosts to complete a series sweep and begin the holidays on a good, positive note.
