Sir Lewis Hamilton shocked the F1 fans and teams, too, when he announced that he would join Ferrari in 2025. He has been part of the Mercedes F1 team for so many years. In 2013, the great Briton joined the German team. But it was the following year that marked the turning point for the Brackley team. Before the former McLaren driver joined the Silver Arrows, they were nowhere near being called one of the powerhouses in Formula One. However, from 2014 to 2021, things went upside down. Mercedes dominated the turbo-hybrid era. They won all eight constructor titles during that period. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton added six more World Championships to his maiden title with McLaren between 2014 and 2020.

However, the same team, Mercedes and racer Hamilton, lost their grip on the title in 2022. Moreover, Hamilton narrowly missed his chance to win the coveted eighth title in 2021. But 2022 marked the year when Red Bull replaced Mercedes as the most dominant team in the grid. Since then, Hamilton has remained winless, and Mercedes has won just one race overall. Hence, the seven-time champion took the tough call of leaving the German team in 2025. The 2024 season will mark Hamilton’s last outing with the Silver Arrows. However, Lewis Hamilton is also aware of the challenges he might face at Ferrari when he turns 40.

Ferrari is the most successful F1 team in the history of the sport. Legends of the sport have driven the Italian cars at Grands Prix. Who can forget the title-winning streak of Michael Schumacher with Ferrari? However, it has been a long time since the Italian team won a constructor or a Driver’s World Championship. On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton is the most decorated F1 racer of all time. In 2025, when he wears the iconic “Red uniform,” the biggest challenge Hamilton will face is to restore the team to title-winning ways. Since 2010, it has been either Red Bull or Mercedes who tasted title success.

Hamilton played a major role for Mercedes. Can he do the same for Ferrari? Recently, Lewis Hamilton told the media, including RacingNews365, that when he re-signed with Mercedes last year, he saw a future with them. But then, an opportunity came up in the new year, and he decided to take it. He added, “It was the hardest decision he ever made.” He mentioned how much he will always cherish the time with Mercedes. But Hamilton feels it’s the right time to start a new chapter.

Lewis Hamilton mentioned the influence of Michael Schumacher when he was growing up, in an interview with Auto Motor und Sport. He mentioned when he used to play F1 on the computer, he always used to be Michael Schumacher. Seeing the German legend win titles one after the other, it was hard to not think about the racer in the red cockpit and what it feels to be surrounded by it. Moreover, Hamilton said at the Italian Grand Prix, there will be a sea of Ferrari fans and, “You can only stand in awe of that.”

He knows that since 2007, Ferrari has not won much. Hence, he knows the tough road he is about to take on. But he also had a light moment talking about learning Italian. The Briton mentioned all these years he could not learn any other language. But he’ll try to learn Italian. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton mentioned he used to pick up a few Italian lines back in his go-karting days. He hopes that will return to him pretty quickly.
