Formula One is tough motorsport, and it can be incredibly ruthless to even the best of the racers in the industry. And Lewis Hamilton has been the major sufferer for the last two years. Ever since Max Verstappen won his first World Champion Title ahead of Hamilton in 2021, he has been winning ever since. And all this loss has caused the Mercedes driver to construct a record that he himself and his fans are not proud of. A few years ago, it was a rare sight to see him lose and miss the podium. But it has all changed over a period of two years.
Lewis Hamilton won his seventh world title in 2020 to match it with the racing legend Michael Schumacher. And ever since the seventh title, he has been in search of his eighth to leave a legacy before retiring. However, in the past two years, he has been suffering from a car that does not gives him enough to compete for the podium. From being the top team, the Mercedes has come down to battling in the midfield because of their bad car. W13 last year and W14 this year have both been nothing but disappointing for the Silver Arrows’ drivers, especially Hamilton.
Hamilton Achieve A Record Not To Boast
There are many statistics that no one in sports would like to put his pride in. However, these stats take incredible popularity among the spectators if it is about the top racers in the game. It looks like Lewis Hamilton has broken Max Verstappen‘s record of not winning the race for the biggest period of time. It sounds impossible to hear that the British racer has not won a single race in 503 days. He broke Max’s winless streak of 502 days that the Red Bull driver held previously. But since 2021, Max has been all over the place, finishing with a podium in almost every race.
Lewis Hamilton has always been competitive, even with a bad car at his disposal. But it has been very tough for him to keep up with the likes of Red Bull and Aston Martin this year. He even complained about them being too fast to catch them on straights and expects better upgradation in the car. The Briton has also labeled his last year as one of the worst years of his career.
What Is The Problem? The Mercedes Car Or Lewis Hamilton?
It has been a routine to see Mercedes driver George Russell pushing the car to the limit and Hamilton whining about the car. The young 24-year-old has been relentless with his performance. And it is extremely hurtful to get outperformed by your own teammate who is driving the same car as you. It looks like the motivation factors for Lewis Hamilton have reduced to none.
According to the former F1 team manager Joan Villadelprat, Lewis is a ‘spoiled little boy.‘ He also expressed Lewis’ nature as whiny as he cries too much about the external environment. Joan raised the question about his motivation to continue winning. The seven-time title winner has achieved everything in his racing career. And it is only one title that will differentiate him from the legendary Schumacher. But it looks like this year is also not going to be the year to beat that.
