Lewis Hamilton has not been comfortable in a Mercedes car since last year. Due to discomfort with the struggling car, he has not been able to win a race since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It happened for the first time in his career that Hamilton could not win a race in a season. Moreover, the seven-time champion has won 103 races so far in his career. It is the most wins by any racer in Formula One.

The Briton has not been successful for a couple of years now. But the Brackley team had their first double podium finish. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton gained his second podium this year in Spain after the one in the Australian Grand Prix. Hence, the success in the Spanish GP boosted the confidence level of the whole team to another level. Even though the revamped Mercedes car has got new side pods and front and floor suspension, Lewis Hamilton has been very vocal about the seat positioning with the W14 car. Both Hamilton and George Russell complained about the rear downforce as well. And that is the reason why both drivers are unable to provide the expected results. Apparently, F1 commentator Peter Windsor feels that Lewis Hamilton needs to change his driving style to adapt to the flawed car. And that’s exactly what he has been doing recently. As a result, he was able to finish at P2 with that car. The Briton is trying his best to work with the B-spec version of the W14 car. But Windsor feels that the Mercedes driver should start taking longer corners to get the feel from the car, and tyres will work better at the front too.

Despite all the hard work from the team and the drivers, boss Toto Wolff has made it clear that the Canadian Grand Prix will not be quite fruitful for the team. According to the boss, this is simply because the Barcelona track has always been very lucky for Mercedes. Although Wolff’s team had a terrible time in Canada last year as their engine broke down. But Toto Wolff feels the street circuits like in Baku, Monaco, and Montreal are not suitable for Mercedes at the moment. The W14 car is still not perfect after the upgrades.

If last year, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell faced obstacles due to porpoising issues causing a lot of bouncing. Then this season, it is the rear downforce and seat position that is making Hamilton very uncomfortable in W14. Moreover, the car had no side pods, which did not help the team’s cause. As a result, the drivers have been complaining about the problems with the Mercedes W14 car since the opening Grand Prix in Bahrain. However, team tested new upgrades in Monaco. It did not help them get a podium, but Lewis Hamilton mentioned, “The car felt good.” Moreover, in the next Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain, Mercedes had their best performance of the year so far.
