Lewis Hamilton Does Not Consider Himself A Leader At Mercedes Anymore! Russell Overtaking?

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the greatest sports personalities in F1. He has won seven-time world championships, which is so far the highest in the sport\’s history. Only Micheal Schumacher has achieved the incredible feat in the past. However, the 2022 season has been a peculiar one for Mercedes. He kicked off the championship with an unlikely podium in Bahrain before finishing 10th in Jeddah. In Spain, the Briton fell behind to P19 in the opening lap. However, he made a giant leap coming from the back of the field and fighting his way to finish P5. But what happened in Abu Dhabi last year against Verstappen has constantly increased concerns about Lewis\’ future.

Meanwhile, George Russell has been magnificent in his debut stint for Mercedes and performing better than Hamilton. The British driver is one of the biggest personalities in F1. And while the new generations of drivers like Verstappen, Leclerc, and Russell are using their talent to acquire wins, Hamilton is still the greatest and the most followed personality in F1. Despite the Briton\’s popularity, Hamilton has denied that he is a leader on his racing team. 

   

Russell and Hamilton attended a press conference ahead of the Spanish GP. There, Russell was asked about the leadership qualities he saw in Hamilton. However, Lewis was quick to respond first and denied being a leader at Mercedes. Hamilton stated that he would not say he is a leader. He specified that George and himself work equally hard together to help drive the tome and fight as hard as everyone else. 

Moreover,the Briton stated that a driver learns about themselves when they get through adversity and challenges by dealing with and reflecting on things. The Briton claimed that he had not learned particularly much more. And his past experiences had helped him during the phase. In addition, Lewis said, \”And I would day to just reassuring the strength I know I have mentally.\”

Hamilton Still Enjoys Racing While Russell Praises His Contribution

Hamilton assured everyone that he still loves his job. He loves the challenge even when he is not fighting for wins. Lewis enjoys the battle that the team is fighting internally to try with the car and chase down the frontrunners.

Russell also replied to the question, revealing that it was inspiring how Lewis works to get the most out of the team. He has been one of the big things. George has watched Lewis since the time he joined Mercedes and how Toto worked things about and the culture within the organization. He stated that his team strives for more, never stays complacent, and witnesses how everyone works to resolve the issues. It inspires and motivates the 24-year-old to learn from the best in business and continue pushing for more. Russell added, \”So I think I\’m in a really privileged position to be team-mates with Lewis and be part of the Mercedes.\”
