Lewis Hamilton Addresses The Difficulties Of Being A Black Driver To Fellow Drivers Of Different Race In BBC Meetup

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton is the first black Formula One driver who came with nothing except his talent and is going with everything he ever wanted. The British driver became a seven-time world champion standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the legend Michael Schumacher. However, in winning the most races, he has already surpassed Schumacher by 12 wins. He just broke all the barriers and stereotypes, being the first black that, too, a GOAT driver. Given that, one can understand how valuable it will be if Lewis Hamilton gives a piece of advice to all those who are apparently dreaming of becoming someone like him. Recently, in a show organized by BBC, Hamilton got the chance to see some of the dreamers who are coming to Formula One soon.

Lewis Hamilton came from a very low-income family background. He was black, and it was the time when the heinous color racism was at its peak. Being black was indeed one of the factors that limited Hamilton’s opportunities in a world dominated by white people. In the show, Lewis talked about the difficulties he faced in his starting career. Becoming a seven-time world indeed developed his on-track skills, but the Mercedes driver also got trained for dealing with the off-track stuff. Winning is great. You can handle happiness, but losing is good too, and you can’t handle it because it comes with a lot of pain. Speaking about how a driver conducts himself after a big loss like that of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021, Hamilton tried to give advice to the newcomers.

“There is Nothing You Can’t Do,” Says Lewis Hamilton To All Those Who Wants To Become A Champion Like Him

The seven-time world champion admitted that the biggest difficulty he faced was the difference in race [ color]. “Obviously, being the one person of color on the track apart from my dad was difficult,” he said. Lewis Hamilton explains that there is a lack of diversity at the top of great organizations and big companies. And, as you already know, the world did not have black leadership all the way down there.

In addition, Lewis Hamilton reckoned that Formula One is one of the very expensive sports. However, it is one of the platforms which always tends to improve diversity and inclusion. There are a lot of people and big companies that promote no racism. And for the advice, the seven-time world champion said, “It is just not what you do on the track. It is also about how you represent yourself as a family.”

Being a good driver in Formula One also takes the way you behave after you lose. In the long run of your career, you will get people, and you will lose them. But, your parents will always be the true people who are going to be there for the right reasons, “like for the purest reasons from the get-go,” said Lewis. In the end, he said, I just want to encourage all of you guys who want to come to the sport, [just know that] THERE IS NOTHING THAT YOU CAN NOT DO.” Just Never give up! as Lewis Hamilton always used to say.
