Last week, the New York Yankees cleared up bullpen by non-tendering as many as three relief pitchers. Lou Trivino, Anthony Misiewicz, and Albert Abreu could not fetch a contract by the deadline and thus entered free agency. Besides, the team also traded INF/OF Jake Bauers in exchange for two outfield prospects.

With that, the Yankees now have four additional spaces in the 40-man roster. Having said that, no major roster scuffles are expected until winter’s meeting in Nashville, which won’t happen until next month. Meanwhile, the team made a minor yet significant acquisition to strengthen the in-form bullpen.

In a move aimed at fortifying their bullpen for the upcoming season, the New York Yankees have made a strategic addition by signing sinker-baller Yerry De Los Santos. Los Santos, known for his sinker-heavy repertoire and ability to induce ground balls, brings a unique dimension to the Yanks’ bullpen. The sinker, a pitch that dives sharply as it approaches the plate, has been a staple for De Los Santos and has proven effective in generating weak contact and inducing double-play opportunities. The signing underscores the Yankees’ commitment to assembling a well-rounded pitching staff capable of thriving in various game situations. General Manager Brian Cashman and the front office have strategically targeted De Los Santos to add another reliable arm to a bullpen that plays a pivotal role in the team’s success.

Yerry De Los Santos missed the 2022 season due to a right shoulder latissimus dorsi strain. However, he did come back stronger in 2023 with a 3.33 ERA over 22 appearances. Despite salient efforts, Pittsburgh Pirates placed the pitcher on outright waivers, which he cleared to enter free agency. Will Los Santos’ emerge as a perfect fit or not, only time will tell. But one thing is certain: the relief pitcher will change the dynamics of the Bronx Bombers’ bullpen. While De Los Santos may not be a household name, his addition to the Yanks’ bullpen highlights the team’s emphasis on uncovering undervalued talent and maximizing the strengths of each player. The analytics-driven approach that has become a hallmark of the front office likely played a role in identifying De Los Santos as a pitcher who aligns with the team’s strategic vision.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Officially Becomes A MLB Free Agent!

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees’ most sought-after free agency target, Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, officially got posted on MLB’s free agency market on Monday. Moreover, the negotiation window could open up around 8 AM ET on Tuesday and conclude at 5 PM ET on January 4th.

Having said that, city rivals, Yankees and Mets have emerged as strong suitors owing to the pitcher’s inclination towards New York’s big sporting market. He wants to make it big in a highly influential team. Still, the Bronx Bombers could have an edge owing to their storied history. Additionally, Hal Steinbrenner has enough financial depth to lure Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the Bronx.
