Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are the biggest reasons why the fans of the New York Yankees hope to win the World Series this year. They have not won the ‘Big Dance’ since the 2009 World Series. It has been a long wait for the fans in the Bronx. Moreover, last year was pretty disappointing because the NY side failed to make the postseason for the first time since 2016. On top of that, the 82-80 record was very humiliating for the 27-time champions. They have to live with that until they bring joy this year for the Yankees Nation this year.

Moreover, the Bronx Bombers have been looking for redemption since last offseason. They showed some real intent when they added Juan Soto to their roster, even for a year. The idea was to pair him with the Yankees captain Aaron Judge. That would make the batting lineup of the NY side a really formidable one. In fact, the plan has really worked as the Judge-Soto duo has been wreaking havoc in the ongoing season.

On Tuesday, the Yankees hosted the Cleveland Guardians for a series opener. It went on to be the longest game so far in 2024, as it finished in the 12th inning. Moreover, the fans and the players got a playoff vibe through this game. It was a battle between two heavyweights in the American League. During this game, in the first inning, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge hit home runs back to back. Clearly, they proved again that they are among the most destructive batting duos in MLB right now. The Guardians starter, Matthew Boyd, was at the receiving end while Judge and Soto took him to the cleaners. At first, the Dominican slugger connected with a changeup that Boyd attempted and made it go long at 97.5 mph to the centre field.

Later, the Yankees captain crushed a sinker from Boyd. As a result, it went long again into the stands. Moreover, it was Juan Soto’s 35th home run of the current season. On the other hand, Aaron Judge extended his home run lead at the top of the standings with his 45th on Tuesday. As a result, the Judge-Soto duo became the fourth duo in franchise history to hit precisely five consecutive homers in a season. The other batting partners who did it were Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth in 1927, Joe DiMaggio and Gehrig in 1936, and Alex Rodriguez and Gary Sheffield in 2005. However, MLB.com shows that one duo in Yankees history has hit more consecutive homers in a season: Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira in 2009 (6).

On Tuesday, the Yankees lost 9-5 to the visitors in the series opener. Nonetheless, the special Yankees duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto went one step closer to breaking a franchise record. If they can hit home runs in back-to-back at-bats two more times this regular season, they will surpass the duo of Damon and Teixeira’s record. Can they help the team win the World Series like Damon and Teixeira did in 2009?

Only 37 regular season games are remaining, and the Yankees are second in the AL East. Moreover, Soto has equaled his own best home run record of a season with Tuesday’s homer. Last season, while playing for the San Diego Padres, Soto had homered 35 times over 162 possible games. He can hit plenty more homers in the current regular season.
