Jasson Dominguez’s unseasonable arrival to the big leagues brought a ray of hope to the dejected Yankees fans who had gotten accustomed to humiliating losses this season. The 20-year-old prospect announced his arrival in style by launching a homer in the debut game itself. Not only that, Dominguez backed it up by slamming three more long hits to script franchise history.

However, all good things had to come to an end for the New York Yankees. It’s been that kind of a season for them. Jasson Dominguez missed the series finale against Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday with an injury scare. The updates that followed turned the team’s worst nightmare into reality. Now, as the prospect has made his way into IL, the Yanks are exploring all possible options to ensure an early return.

New York Yankees highly regarded prospect Jasson Dominguez wreaked havoc in the first eight games of major league career. In those eight appearances, the kid put up .258 with four homers, seven RBIs, and .980 OPS on board. However, the dream run came to a halt with a major unfortunate injury. The outfielder felt some discomfort in his right elbow and conveyed the same to the team. The Yanks, meanwhile, wasted no time to schedule scans, which brought their worst fears come true. An injury that looked minor from the first look turned out to be a UCL tear. The kid was immediately shut down for the season and put on 10-day IL.

UCL tear injuries are the worst for an athlete, let alone baseball players. For a position player like Jasson Dominguez, it would take at least nine to 10 months to fully heal, as confirmed by skipper Aaron Boone. So what’s the Yankees plan now? Well, for starters, the club is still seeking doctors’ opinions and exploring options. The only two viable options are either a Tommy John surgery or an alternative internal brace procedure, which could fast-track the kid’s return. “I think he’s getting a handful of looks at it,” Boone said. The skipper further added that UCL tear injuries are risky, and one can never determine a timeline for it. He will be ready when he and the doctors think he is ready to resume. Considering the worst-case scenario, Dominguez should be ready to resume around July next year.

One person’s loss is another one’s gain. With Jasson Dominguez losing his 2023 season playing time with a UCL tear injury, Estevan Florial has received a call-up. Florial, despite being impressive in the minor league, has been ignored repeatedly for promotion. Even when the Yanks launched a youth movement, Estvean failed to grab a spot.

Nevertheless, the wait has finally ended. Estevan Florial will replace Jasson Dominguez in the New York Yankees roster for the rest of the season. He was hitting .284 with 28 home runs, 25 steals, and a .945 OPS in Triple-A before being called up. The outfielder is also effective on the field. Florial will have to fight for his 40-man roster spot to escape the Rule 5 draft.
