Aaron Judge, the New York Yankees captain, has been in the MLB business for nine long years. He debuted in pinstripes back in 2016 and went on to become one of the finest talents ever produced by the esteemed organization. However, on Saturday, Judge became a part of an unfortunate incident.

On Saturday, the New York Yankees were up against the Detroit Tigers for Game 2 of the three-game series. Aaron Judge was having a decent day as he went for 2 hits and an RBI 4 at-bats. However, things took an ugly turn when Judge had a face-off with the plate umpire, which caused his career-first ejection.

Aaron Judge Has Respect For Umpire Ryan Blakney Despite Soft Ejection

New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge landed on the wrong side of history as he was ejected for the first time in his prolific major league career. The incident unfolded in the seventh inning when the New York Yankees captain took a fastball on a 3-2 count. It was called a strike, but Judge thought otherwise as he strongly voiced his disagreement with plate umpire Ryan Blakney. While Judge left the plate after a couple of words, as he turned back, the umpire ejected him. Judge was perplexed and reverted back to the umpire to seek an explanation. Before things could escalate further, manager Aaron Boone rushed in the middle and separated the duo. Eventually, Judge was forced to skip the rest of the game.

Meanwhile, in the post-game interview, Aaron Judge shed light on the incident and claimed that the ejection was soft as he’s gotten away in the past with much worse showdowns. Judge further added that he didn’t intend to make any scene. But it was important for him to voice his opinion against the wrong being done to him. “A little surprised walking away that that happened,” Judge said. That being said, despite the controversial call, the Yankees captain showed respect towards Ryan Blakney, saying that umpires’ jobs are tough and that they try to do their best behind the plate. Overall, both Judge and the umpire walked away without any sanctions. And the home captain earned his moment of redemption on the very next day in the Yankees series sweep against the Tigers.

Aaron Judge moved on from the controversial ejection quickly as he slammed a 399 ft homer against the Detroit Tigers in Sunday’s series finale. Judge smoked a moonshot in his very first at-bat and added the first runs on board for his team. With a 5-3 lead, the game was called off due to rain, and the Yanks eventually attained a series sweep at home.

However, Aaron Judge did end up in the wrong side of history as he became the only Yankees captain to be tossed since Don Mattingly in 1994. Notably, Derek Jeter was never ejected in his 20 year stint in pinstripes. Regardless, Judge walked out with the last laugh as his team attained a much needed series sweep.
