After two early losses into the four-game series against the mighty Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees secured a 4-2 win on Wednesday only to lose the finale by 7-2 on Thursday. Carlos Rodon had a nightmarish start as he allowed seven runs (six earned) in four innings.

However, a costly error at second base by seasoned infielder Gleyber Torres added two additional runs to the Baltimore Orioles’ 7 runs-finishing tally. This hasn’t been Torres’ first routine error in defense this year. Hence, skipper Aaron Boone was fuming post-game as he rebuked Torres for making silly mistakes at such a big stage.

Carlos Rodon’s seven-run start promoted the Baltimore Orioles to a 7-2 victory over the New York Yankees in the four-game series finale. However, the final two runs were awarded through a costly error from second baseman Gleyber Torres. In the bottom of the fifth innings, Adley Rutschman pushed for a double to left field, which was followed up by Ryan Mountcastle’s single. However, Mountcastle was transported to second base safely owing to an error by Torres. That error prompted the Orioles to 7 runs finish. Needless to say, the manager, Aaron Boone, who often supports his players, lost his cool in a post-game interview. He lashed out at Torres to rebuke that the second baseman should have been better with the glove.

Aaron Boone was of the opinion that it’s the big leagues, and Gleyber Torres must have made that play. “I don’t know if he was trying to do too much. He’s made that play a lot. He didn’t in that spot,” said Boone. Notably, the second baseman has been under the pump since the start of the season due to a lack of offensive form. In 33 games, he’s hitting .218 with a home run and 7 RBIs. And, in the defense, Torres has been equally disappointing. His errors have also cost Yanks the game, and therefore, the skipper lost his cool this time around. Indeed, Boone’s scold was a much-needed wake-up call as Gleyber Torres needs to fire with a crucial free agency coming up. If he desires an extension, the season infielder must stack up numbers and prove himself to the esteemed organization.

After Aaron Boone’s rebuke, Gleyber Torres said that his error was unacceptable and that he was completely accountable for it. “We got punched in the face,” said the second baseman after the loss. That being said, after dropping the four-game series against a challenging opposition, the Yankees dropped to second place in the AL-East table.

Nevertheless, it has been a strong start to the season for the New York Yankees, who missed out on the postseason last year. At this trajectory, the Bronx Bombers will likely finish into the playoffs and hopefully ensure a deep postseason run. The next up, the Yanks will move home in the Bronx for a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.
