The New York Yankees marked yet another series victory of the 2024 MLB season with a 10-6 win in the finale against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The Yanks are nearly unstoppable and invincible when their offense strikes and that was exactly the case on Sunday.

From Aaron Judge to Jose Trevino to Jahmai Jones, everybody fed off on each other’s energy to produce elite offense. That being said, a struggling second baseman Gleyber Torres broke out off his concerning slump with a mass three-run bomb. And immediately after, he expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaching staff for their unconditional support.

Gleyber Torres Calls Yankees Home Amid Looming Free Agency!

New York Yankees second baseman and impending free agent Gleyber Torres is not necessarily having the best time of his career. After a strong finish to the 2023 season, Torres fetched a hefty arbitration contract. But failed to carry forward the form as expected. He hadn’t scored a home run until the Baltimore series unfolded earlier this month. On top of that, Torres made unacceptable lapses in defense, which further cost Yanks crucial games. However, after weeks of incessant and never-ending struggle, the baseman broke out of the slump to extend the Yank’s lead in a 10-6 win against the Tampa Bay Rays in the series finale held on Sunday. In the top of the eighth inning, Torres slammed a three-run homer to add insurance runs into the team’s lead.

Having said that, Gleyber Torres took the opportunity to express gratitude to his teammates and coaching staff in the post-game interview for constantly having his back. Torres said the three-run bomb felt good, and he felt relieved to have finally done something positive for the team. The second baseman added that his teammates were waiting to celebrate his home run back in the dugout, which was a special moment considering the struggles he had faced this season. Torres reiterated that the Yankees are his home, and his teammates are his family, who always stand like a rock through thick and thin. “I mean the relationship I have here is amazing especially in this moment everybody is with me right now,” said Torres. With free agency looming, Torres is under pressure to prove himself worthy enough for an extension at Bronx, which seems a far-fetched dream for now.

Aaron Boone Clarifies Idea Behind Benching Gleyber Torres

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone scratched struggling second baseman Gleyber Torres from the lineup against Rays on Saturday. He clarified later that the idea behind the decision was to allow Torres a day off to figure himself out. His numbers have been awful and Boone does not feel good about that.

In 154 at-bats this year, Gleyber Torres’ batting average is .208, with just 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. After finishing the 2023 season as the Yankees’ best hitter after Aaron Judge, the expectations were high for Torres. But clearly, he failed to deliver, and it’s costing the Bronx Bombers majorly in this MLB season.
