Anthony Volpe largely earned his major league cap this year on the recommendation of Yankees captain Aaron Judge. However, the shortstop justified his selection by putting up a decent show during his rookie season. Of course, the numbers seemed underwhelming given the hyper created around his skill set.

Regardless, Anthony Volpe landed on everyone’s good books. While the shortstop is working during the off-season to better his rookie season, he earned a prestigious award from MLB to honor his defensive contributions. While Volpe wasn’t certainly expecting to be rewarded with the highest honor, he credited his team, the Yankees, massively for unconditional backing.

Anthony Volpe became the first Yankee in the storied history of the franchise to win a Golden Glove Award in his rookie season itself. Volpe and Anthony Rizzo were finalists in their respective positions, and the former eventually emerged victorious. At an event, the Yankee shortstop spoke to the media and expressed gratitude for the accolade. He says the moment is surreal and still hasn’t sunk in. While it seems an individual achievement, Volpe feels he wouldn’t have reached this afar without the support of his teammates and coaches. “For you to get an individual award, I think a lot of credit goes to a lot of different people,” said Volpe.

While Volpe has marked his spot in the Yankees’ storied history, he says that was never his goal when he first arrived in the Bronx. For him to be able to represent the prestigious franchise and play baseball donning the pinstripes every day is an honor in itself. Even though his rookie season didn’t pan out as per expectations, Anthony Volpe is determined to get better with each passing season. Having said that, Volpe’s debut major league stint with the bat certainly didn’t meet the standards. He finished the year with a .209 average, 21 home runs, 60 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. During the last stretch, fatigue definitely seemed to have got the better of him. Nevertheless, Volpe hopes to improve and come out stronger in 2024.

During a recent interview, Anthony Volpe also shared his views on the New York Yankees lost 2023 season. He labeled it frustrating and not up to the set standards. The rookie feels that Yanks, as a group, have collectively set a high standard for themselves. Thus, a season like 2023 surely is hurtful. But at the same time, it won’t break the spirit of the unit but rather will only add to the motivation.

Speaking on his individual performance, Anthony Volpe said he didn’t reach the set benchmark and took responsibility. “I feel like I know where I have to be, and all the work that I’m doing leading up to that is gonna be toward that goal,” added Volpe. Further, the rookie promised to put in more significant work in spring training to kick off the season in a better position.
