Is Red Sox\’ Xander Bogaerts On The New York Yankees Radar?

Yankees

The teams in the MLB are spending their off-season time in an attempt to build a strong squad for the next season. And New York Yankees are no different. In the past few there has been news about the Yankees adding three pitchers and re-signing Anthony Rizzo. But that\’s not all with the Bombers, as reports suggest that the franchise has been in talks with Red Sox Shortstop Xander Bogaerts.

Are The Yankees Planning To Recruit Xander Bogaerts?

There\’s an old saying that \’hope for the best but prepare for the worst,\’ and it seems like that\’s exactly what the New York Yankees are planning to do. It is clear that getting back last year\’s highest scorer Aaron Judge is the team\’s top priority. However, it appears they are also working on a contingency plan in case things go South with Judge.

The Yankees reportedly have a good chance of re-signing top target Aaron Judge. However, there are no guarantees associated with free agency, so people are finding other ways to occupy their time. Xander Bogaerts, a seasoned Red Sox shortstop, has reportedly spoken with New York since he became a free agent. According to reports, the veteran shortstop is being pursued by a number of organizations, including the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. It is much worse for them that their rival team, Red Sox, seems to have contacted their homegrown star.

As the team already has players Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza in the Yankees\’ roaster, the shortstop is not a major concern for them. However, if the club loses Judge, general manager Brian Cashman wants to have a backup. There are a number of high-value shortstops available to him, including Bogaerts, Dansby Swanson, Turner, and Correa.

The Philadelphia Phillies, on the other side, are allegedly very interested in the shortstop. However, it looks that Boston\’s main opponent has also spoken with the Silver Slugger Award winner for 2022. The 30-year-old remains the Red Sox\’s top priority. And the team is still making every effort to get him back together. The Red Sox have made this clear on several occasions.

It would be the worst-case situation for Boston if Bogaerts wore Yankee pinstripes. The 30-year-old, who spent almost ten years being regarded as a leader in the Red Sox clubhouse. It\’s safe to say that Boston\’s front office would get some bad press if they allowed him to sign with the Yankees or another team in the division.
