Max Verstappen missed out on the pole position in the Canadian Grand Prix this year. Moreover, Red Bull did not look quite convincing in the last few races. Clearly, McLaren and Ferrari have improved a lot. And they have a really good chance to end the domination of the Milton Keynes outfit this season. On the other hand, Mercedes had a pretty good outing in Montreal. If the Silver Arrows can hold on to the momentum, the competition can get more intense in the following races. Despite the impressive progress of McLaren, Ferrari, and other teams, somewhere somehow, Red Bull still seems to have a certain edge.

Perhaps it is their car, or it can even be their star racer, Max Verstappen. The Dutch racer just keeps getting smarter in terms of finding ways to win a race from any position. Moreover, the reigning champion had intense battles against George Russell and Lando Norris in Montreal. But then, in the end, he managed to win his third back-to-back Canadian GP. In the post-race interview, Max expressed his opinion on the safety car call in Montreal.

Thanks to the success in the Canadian Grand Prix this year, Max Verstappen won his 60th GP. The Red Bull superstar has been winning the race in Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since the last two years. It was his third win in Montreal on the trot. But Verstappen needed this win after what happened in the last race in Monaco. He could not win the most iconic F1 race this year. However, the reigning champion feels the safety car call helped him win the race in Canada. He believes, “It was payback time” for what happened in Miami. After the Canadian GP, Max Verstappen told the media, including RacingNews365, that sometimes the safety car call works for a driver, and sometimes it will work against him.

He added, “This time, it worked for us, but that’s racing.” But in case of staying on the receiving end of those calls by the race director, Max says, “It’s 1-1 so far in 2024.” Finally, the Dutch racer acknowledged his team for making all the right calls. Nonetheless, he is aware of the fact that the weekend in Montreal was quite chaotic. He wouldn’t want to have similar weekends again. But Max described the result as “Very rewarding.”

Red Bull Driver Says, “It Wasn’t An Easy Race”

The reigning champion won the Canadian Grand Prix this year in trying circumstances. He had to deal with a lot of issues, including the mix of intermediates and slicks. Max Verstappen went on to say that it was not an easy race as the chances of making mistakes are higher when the inters started to become slicks. The track was drying in most places. Hence, Max says it was easy to “Go off.” However, there were even corners where it was hard to go to slick tires because it was too wet.

Max Verstappen added that these factors made the race even more difficult. Adding to that, he said, “You try to focus, but it is more important to remain as calm as possible.” Nonetheless, Max had fun as he said it is fun to have such races every now and then. However, not all the time because it can be very stressful. Anyway, he had fun winning the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix.
