ICC T20 World Cup: Can Indian Team Still Qualify For ICC T20 WC Semifinals?

Can Indian Team Still Qualify For ICC T20 WC Semifinals? Team India, who was early favorites to win the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, is now on the brink of an exit from the tournament. India performed incredibly well in both of the warm-up games. However, after that, they failed to give a tough competition in both of their matches. Both Pakistan and New Zealand easily defeated team India. Pakistan got an easy 10-wicket victory on India, whereas New Zealand bashed the team and won the match by 8-wickets.

Everyone thought team India would bounce after a humiliating defeat by Pakistan. The latter chased down 152 runs against India without losing a single wicket, and that too in 17.5 overs. Whereas New Zealand stopped India on only 100 runs and easily won the match by 8-wicket in 14 overs. Because of these huge losses, India\’s net run rate is down to -1.609, and the team is at the fifth position on the points table.

Currently, India\’s chance to qualify in the semi-finals is very slim, as it is almost clear that Pakistan will be the first team to qualify. One among New Zealand, Afghanistan, and India will become the second team. However, India has to win their next three games with a huge margin in order to secure their place in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup.

How Can Indian Team Still Qualify For ICC T20 WC Semifinals?

India\’s dream to enter the semi-finals will be crushed in an instant if they lose to Afghanistan on Wednesday. However, if India manages to defeat the Afghans by a big margin and then Afghanistan defeats New Zealand, then all three teams will have 6 points on the points table. Then, the team will a better run rate will qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, it will be very difficult for the remaining teams to beat Afghanistan\’s NRR of 3.097.

Another possibility is that both India and New Zealand beats Afghanistan. If this happens, then the latter won\’t be able to get six points. However, for India to qualify in this scenario, the Kiwis have to face defeat at the hands of either Scotland and Namibia, which is very unlikely to happen.

At present, Afghanistan has the best chance to become the second team to qualify for the semi-finals from Group B. New Zealand is right behind them in the race to enter the next stage of the ICC T20 World Cup. It is very unlikely that India will make it to the semi-finals, but several miracles happened in history, and the fans of the Indian Cricket team are hoping to see one this year as well.
