The New York Yankees trade for Jazz Chisholm Jr at the recently concluded deadline left many fans and analysts surprised as he was deemed a misfit in pre-deadline analysis. However, the front office decided to go ahead with the plan regardless to finalize a deal with the Miami Marlins.

Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm Jr proved his doubters wrong with a stellar debut for the New York Yankees. The outfielder-turned-third baseman logged two back-to-back multi-homer games to script franchise history in his first series itself. However, despite a strong debut, the former Marlins team president was critical of Jazz’s hype and predicted an immediate regression in the Bronx.

The New York Yankees fans were proud of the front office’s trade to import Jazz Chisholm Jr as they played a key role in the team’s series sweep victory against a dominant Phillies. Jazz was traded from the Miami Marlins days leading up to the deadline and slammed two consecutive multi-homer games to become the first Yankee in the franchise’s history to score four home runs in the first three games in Yankee uniform. Chisholm Jr became the overnight sensation and is set to debut at the Yankee Stadium this weekend. However, former Miami Marlins team president David Samson poured cold water on Chisholm’s hype. Samson served the Marlins from 2002 to 2017 and has always been critical of Jazz.

In a recent appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show, David Samson referred to Jazz Chisholm Jr as an average and overrated player. He ridiculed the slugger’s big talks about idolizing Yankee legend Derek Jeter as he feels Jazz’s statements were meant to woo the fans. Not only that, Samson claimed that the Marlins had been wanting to trade Chisholm for a while, and the Yankees appeared an ideal target due to the quality exchange package. Ultimately, Samson does not believe Jazz Chisholm is the star he thinks he is. “He’s not the star; he’s not the center of attention,” Samson said. Interestingly, the ex-team president also downplayed the slugger’s strong start in Yankee uniform while predicting an immediate regression at the Yankee Stadium. “In Miami, it gets ignored with one camera. In New York, you’re on the back page of The Post. So be careful what you wish for,” Samson concluded.

Meanwhile, MLB scouts delivered a mixed verdict on New York Yankees trade for Jazz Chisholm Jr. An unnamed scout believes the Bombers front office gambled on Jazz’s talent. While he has the tools, the slugger has also shown red flags in the past. “It’s probably not a trade they make if they were playing better baseball,” the scout said.

Not only that, another anonymous scout opined that Jazz Chisholm Jr has the tool to become a successful slugger in majors. However, he has lacked the focus and the right environment in the past. Perhaps, the New York Yankees are hoping to unleash his full potential with the world series winning environment.
