Two-time CY Young Awardee Blake Snell is a free agent in his off-season. He is coming off a season that awarded him with his second CY Young award. Meanwhile, a desperate New York Yankees are currently being linked to the left-handed pitcher amid a lack of depth in the starting pitching rotation for the impending season.
Having said that, Blake Snell has also privately expressed interest in joining forces with the New York Yankees, as claimed by Andy Martino of SNY. However, a popular radio host has suggested against the idea of signing Snell this off-season. He feels the superstar frontline starter is a misfit in the Bronx.
Sal Licata Suggests Yankees To Maintain Distance From Overpriced Blake Snell!
The New York Yankees have shortlisted Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell as two favorite free agency candidates for pitching reinforcements. However, WFAN radio host Sal Licata deemed Snell unfit for the Bronx. Licata started off his rant by calling the two-time CY Young award-winning pitcher a douche. He added that Snell would be nothing but a disaster and signing him would be a mistake from the Yanks. The host also feared that Snell could end up meeting the same fate as Carlos Rodon. He explained that Blake Snell is a five-inning pitcher and is extremely overpriced this off-season. While he is at his best when healthy, he cannot handle the pressure of playing in New York.
“He may be effective, which will help them. But once things go sideways, I don’t think he’s got it in him to respond,” said Sal Licata. Blake Snell is seeking a $150 million contract for a period of five to six years this off-season. While the possibility of having two defending CY Young award-winning pitchers is palpable, Hal Steinbrenner needs to review the financial implications. Sal Licata’s choice of words may be harsh, but his point isn’t untrue. Snell would come with his own set of challenges. He has had trouble staying consistent, and most importantly, the pitcher is not versed in playing in a big city like New York. However, despite the downsides, Yankee ace Gerrit Cole has given his blessings to the front office to pursue his counterpart. Will Cole’s recommendation add weight to the pursuit? Only time will tell.
Yanks Keen To Reunite To Jordan Montgomery!
Besides Blake Snell, the New York Yankees’ favorite free agency candidate is Jordan Montgomery. The pitcher recently shoved the narrative of him not being an ideal postseason fit by guiding the Texas Rangers to the championship. Interestingly, the negative narrative was labeled by the Yanks when they traded him back in 2022, citing the same reason.
However, now that Jordan Montgomery is a world champion, the Yankees want him back. But does Jordan Montgomery want the same? Apparently now. According to the latest industry rumors, an extension with the Rangers is Montgomery’s first choice over a reunion with the Bronx Bombers. He feels at home in Texas, and most importantly, the pitcher feels valued. However, the Rangers have yet to reveal their stance on keeping Montgomery for the near future.
