Giancarlo Stanton, renowned for his prodigious power and impressive offensive capabilities, was expected to be a cornerstone of the Yankees’ lineup when he joined the team back in 2017. However, a series of injuries have limited his availability and hampered his ability to make a sustained impact.

In 2023, Stanton had the responsibility to cover for injured captain Aaron Judge as the second-best hitter on the team. However, the slugger failed due to lingering injury issues and finished the year with a career-worst .191 batting average. Moreover, ahead of the brand new 2024 season, the Yankees general manager shares a brutally honest assessment of Stanton.

New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has made a candid assessment of Giancarlo Stanton’s injury-prone tenure with the team. In a recent interview with New York Daily News, the GM said he expects Stanton to get injured next season as it has become a part of his game now. While the Yanks have tried to manage and limit his exposure, it just does not seem to be working. “But I’m not gonna tell you he’s gonna play every game next year because he’s not. He’s going to wind up getting hurt again,” Cashman said. Stanton has suffered from lower body injuries since 2019, and 2023 was no different.

Giancarlo Stanton missed around half of the season due to hamstring and calf strains. Moreover, even after reinstatement, the slugger restricted himself on the bases, which hampered the team’s scoring chances. Having said that, Brian Cashman says the Yankees will continue to work on him. He also opined that Stanton’s health situation in 2023 seemed better compared to 2022. Not only that, the slugger’s ability to slam the roof when healthy is what motivates the franchise to help him regain his old self. Meanwhile, Stanton, on his part, also promised to work on his shortcomings in the batter’s box. Besides staying healthy, tweaking the mechanics and rediscovering the lost confidence will remain key for the Yankee slugger.

Former MLB OF Weighs Thoughts On Stanton’s Future In Yankees!

Giancarlo Stanton is signed through 2027, and due to contract complications, the Yankees are bound to stick with him. He will be 38 by the time his contract with Bombers expires. So, will the slugger call it quits as a Yankee? Former MLB outfielder Cameron Maybin does not think so. He is unsure if Stanton would want to finish his career in the pinstripes. A large part of it is because the slugger has ensured a lot of backlash this past years.

Thus, he might opt to land at some place where his efforts are appreciated. It is also a place where fans acknowledge his resilience in handling tough situations in the Bronx. Maybin’s opinion makes sense and seems plausible. No athlete likes to play in front of a fanbase who does not like them. But at the end of the day, Giancarlo Stanton has to understand the harsh reality, which is that he hasn’t offered anything to the fans to make them appreciate and think highly of him.
